Stopped by this place because we saw it on the Travel Channel’s ’Ghost Adventurers.’ Apparently the place is haunted. Oh, they serve beer too. Did not know what to expect from the food or beer but whatever, thats what makes traveling pretty cool. Its an old building with the bar looking more old style. The place is clean and because of the haunted thing pretty cool. Our waitress said that she had only been working there for a couple months but knew the beer and said that she personally has not experienced ’ghosts’ but others have. The food was very good. My wife had a hotdog wrapped in bacon and I had the crabcake sandwich. Excellent, both were. The beer stands up and had some good seasonal action just tapped when we were there. Worth a trip if you are in the area. | | azorie (17), Florida | | August 11, 2009 We go in the door and its empty except for 4 folks at the bar. We get seated right away. I have held off reviewing this place before mainly because I never judge a beer or a place by 1 try.
Since there was 3 wait staff or more lurking around, we got service at first right away. I want to say this place has good food, and its a good value. The beer is good to great, but sadly you think a brew pub this small, would not rip you off price wise on the beer, but they do. a pint during the daytime is now 5.50, and I hope this is not a happy hour price! Sadly neither the waiter (which is understandable) had a clue about the beer that the web site claimed they had, which in my book is sad when even after he got the asst brew master down, they had no clue about the web site being out of date by 6 months. Too be honest it was the only reason we drove 2.5 hours up there , so was a tad upset the web site with so much detail did not reflect what was really on tap. WHY Have such a big web site, if your NOT going to update it? anyway they get more that 6 tables full get ready to wait for refills of beer. They also need a list of there current beers, sad when they cannot even do that, I know they had time, the manager had time to pass out coasters you think they have time to keep a simple list of beers up to date.
That said there were very friendly and we chatted (with the assit brew master) about there beers. I did complain about the prices, and he said they use imperial pints, which they do for the beer under 6% abv, but after that you get 8oz for the same 5.50 which is a rip off IMHO. The porter and wit where outstanding, the porter was the best I ever had outside England! the wit was damn tasty. I also had a cask ale that had fermented peaches added to it, it was a bourbon aged wit, I believe. Sadly they only had a list of 4 main beers, the rest you need a tape recorder to take in what is they had, I think they had a RIS and DIPA also, but since they would also come in a 8 oz glass I passed. I hate samplers so I did not do that. I rated service as nearly poor because they are damn slow with nearly empty place. If you want to drink sit at the bar, the service is much better.
| | KornDogg (20), Lancaster, Pennsylvania | | July 26, 2009 Decent atmosphere but not many brews to pick from... no seasonals when I visited... beer tasted a little flat... was hopin it would be a bit better even though I did not have high expectations for this place | | TaktikMTL (141), Montréal-Nord, Quebec | | March 26, 2009 Établissement visité le samedi 7 mars vers 13h30. (121e rating d’établissement) | | wcampbell (10), Central, South Carolina | | February 6, 2009 Awesome food, fun and typical brewpub atmosphere. The beers are a little too standard and average tasting, nothing really stands out. The seasonals are slightly different, but not much. Cool pint glasses for 3 dollars. Out of the beer sampler, I liked the wacky wit the best, the imperial stout was too sweet for me. Cool waitstaff. | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | February 6, 2009 Great brewpub, great staff, great location. Brewmaster tries hard to create a lineup of decent standards and beefed-up seasonals including some barrel-aged brews and cask ales. They are going beyond the call of duty, taking the beers more seriously than they need to considering the wealth of tourist dollars spent here. But in spite of that it’s a local’s place too and lots of regulars drink here. Bartenders drink at the bar when their shift is over and are very knowledgeable about the house beer and are humorously anti-macro. Oh! And the best is "Would you like that for here or to go?" You can get a beer in a plastic cup to go, it’s so civilized in Savannah. | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | January 29, 2009 Definitely liked Moon River. Great bartenders who love beer, pimp beer and work hard to make sure you’re having a good time. The beer list is long, with some fine choices. The IPA is tasty and the BA Imperial Stout made us repeat visitors. I like the to-go option, too. Moon River surprised us. | | nearbeer (98), Knoxville, Tennessee | | December 1, 2008 Nice brewpub in the historic district of downtown. Ten house taps available when I went, including a Thursday night-only firkin of the brewmaster’s special. Good brews, good standard pub grub, all at nice prices. Wait staff tried, but didn’t know much about beer, as they seemed to be the typical minimum-wage rotation of kids that can be hit-or-miss, depending on the luck of your draw. | | beerbill (43), Laurel, New York | | September 2, 2008 We had lunch here during our recent vacation. Nice looking place with a large bar area. They had 7 or 8 beers on tap and one beer on cask the day we were there. We could not order beer right away, becasue apparently alcohol cannot be served in Georgia before 12:30 on Sunday. I asked our server if she could take our bar order ahead of time so it could be poured at 12:30, and she said she didn’t think she could do that. I then asked her what time it was so I’d know how long I had to wait, and she said she wasn’t sure of the time. She wasn’t exactly the brightest crayon in the box. I ended up getting up from the table and asking the bartender, who was very friendly and helpful. She took our beer orders and had them sent over to the table right at 12:30 (by someone other than our server by the way). Food was above average and served promptly. I would visit again if we returned to Savannah. |
