| smoosh (32), New Albany, Indiana | | May 9, 2012 I see that the reviews for this brewery are fairly mediocre, but my wife and I enjoyed it quite a bit! I had seen it on Ghost Adventures I was very curious. It is in a very cool building - as are nearly all businesses in Savannah. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. She had only been there for a month and had no ghost stories to tell. The beers were good, but unspectacular. The food was *very* good. My wife got the pulled pork - which is smoked by a local BBQ place. I had the wings, which were fried crispy, but still most. I had the hottest they have - which were hot, but I would have liked more heat. Overall - I enjoyed it very much and would happily return if it were closer to home. | ToyAllen (4), Savannah, Georgia does not count - explanation | | March 5, 2012 Lot of hype bout nothin. Their in-house brews are ok but nothing to get excited over. Food is ok at best. Friendly service is a goal they should work towards. | | blipp (68), Newark, New Jersey | | February 8, 2012 Standard brewpub with decent beers and relatively cheap prices. Sampler of 6 was $7.75. Went for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn’t busy at all. The building seems old and and actually pretty cool inside, with a bunch of classic beer cans lining the top of one of the walls. I’ll definitely pop in again next time I’m in Savannah. | | GJF (39), Cedar Rapids, Iowa | | February 2, 2012 Eh. It’s a very standard brewpub. The beers are mediocre, but certainly drinkable. Food is kind of lame. It’s the kind of brewpub that continues to disappoint me. | | Immy (107), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | December 1, 2011 This place has changed quite a bit since I first visited...nearly upscale in comparison, albeit crowded seating. Decent food, skip dessert. Good beer, overall. | | Malty_MacHops (15), Eastanollee, Georgia | | November 29, 2011 Popped in to this brewpub during an unusually warm November day in Savannah. I sat at the bar, since I didn’t plan on eating and really only wanted to sample the brews. I tried some samples and ended up ordering a special bourbon barrel aged version of their seasonal Oud Brune. This beer was excellent. My father ordered the Captain’s Porter, which was also very good. As for the other beers, they were average or less. One thing I did not like was the presentation of the sweet potato ale. The beer itself is ok, but they serve it in a glass rimmed with sugar and spices. I did not like this with the beer. The service was good, plus it was not very crowded in the middle of the afternoon, so we had the barmaid pretty much to ourselves. Was a little surprised at her lack of knowledge considering she is the bar tender of a brewpub, but still much better than the typical chain restaurant waiter. Overall a good experience. | | alagnak (48), Littleton, Colorado | | October 26, 2011 Right on Bay street on the edge of the historic district. Beers were average, with one (the Oude Brune) better than average and one (the Wit) on the ’undrinkable’ side of average. Decent place, food was OK, service was quite good. Couple bonus points for the location and it’s convenience to the heart of the historic district, but in general, not a lot of reason to stop here. | | Elwood (83), Leesburg, Virginia | | October 23, 2011 I stopped by here while spending a week trotting around the south. The beers range from okay to less than okay with nothing standing out in particular. The bartender seemed inconvenienced by us, so we chose not to order anything else after I got my sampler. Nothing particularly worthwhile to stop for here. | | changeup45 (78), Mount Dora, Florida | | August 23, 2011 We went here on a Sunday night during the off peak season in Savannah. It was still fairly busy. The place is located downtown in the historic part of the city. Inside is spacious, fairly large bar with plenty of seating, although nothing with the atmosphere really sticks with me. The service was fine. The waitress was very knowlegeable of all the beer they offered. That’s something that should be expected at a brewpub but you don’t always get it. I had a sampler of their seven different beers for $8.25. A great deal. While there weren’t really any standouts I thought the beer as a whole was pretty good. I will echo what someone else said and say it would have been nice to have a list of what I was trying in front of me, rather than just going on memory. It wasn’t a big deal but still would have been nice to have. Both my wife and my meals I’d say were OK. About what you’d expect from a pub, although the menu is more extensive than your typical pub food. The food at The Distillery the next day was quite a bit better for what it’s worth. Overall the beer was good, the food decent, prices reasonable, and a good time was had. I’d go back; you’d really have to screw up for me not to enjoy myself at a brewpub. Oh yeah, supposedly this place is haunted and don’t forget to grab a beer to go since it’s legal in Savannah! | | guzzler67 (38), Hanover, Maryland | | May 15, 2011 Nicely restored building, supposedly haunted, in the historic district. River St is directly opposite and Churchills Pub is right next door. Limited tap selection (6) while we were in town, with a couple of guest taps that included a Terrapin. The beers we had (IPA, wit, porter and pale ale) were all decent. Food was good (late lunch), service at the bar was good to very good (better the 2nd day), and the prices seemed about average for a touristy area. Not a bad choice if you have the time. |
