RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
A hippie-ish restaurant/brewery with decent beer (and food) and usually 2-6 guest brews on tap from local micros. Can often be very crowded (it doesn’t really have a true bar area...standing room only if you’re not eating), as it is a very small place. WARNING: they don’t take credit cards...but they have an ATM near the restrooms.

kitschy | Delightful home to young and old hippies. myriad beer choices everything we tasted was delightful and refreshing. The menu has both vegetarian and meat items. Staffing is curious - credo on menu emphasizes team concept with staff rotating job duties. Arrive for casual drinking before the dinner hour, when the place gets more croweded.

| josarah | We stopped here for lunch, at first glance I thought it was going to be a young hippie joint ,WRONG. The service was awesome, the food was great and so were the beers. Don’t let the first read fool you.

chef201atc | Placed smelled great inside - reminded me of brew day at home! Had a great selection of their beers on tap, of which I sampled two. Both were pretty good. Had an awesome black and blue burger. Great food and good brews, a good combination.

| targhee | Wonderful place. Cash only. Very busy especially Friday and Saturday nights. Am not sure what previous reviewers mean by "hippies" since a lot of us that dress in Keens and jeans are actually doing quite well thank you, we just dont need to spend $500 on silly clothes. It’s what’s in your head that counts. You will stand for 1/2 hour if you come between 630 and 830 pm on those nights. About 20 beers and they’re very accommodating about bringing a few tasters for you to try, to match whatever style you are interested in. I’ve yet to have even a so-so beer there. Their IPAs are to die for, especially the imperial style, as are the dessert chocolate stouts and porters. The menu is pretty straight ahead, nothing wicked exciting, but it tastes good, and with that beer menu, who cares.

ogglethorp | Nothing too terribly exciting to look at, unless phish posters get your gonads going. I didn’t eat, so I can’t really comment, but food and menu looked relatively nice. Vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes. Super frindly, attentive, and knowledgable service. Stout-fest was going on when I visited. I think there were at least 12 taps, seemed like more. Nice selection of Mtn Sun brews and guest taps. Worth a stop for sure! Some creative brews.

hopdog | Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. Bartender took the time to talk to me and explain all the beers. Ordered a sampler 6 x 6oz glasses and he threw in 2 extra so I could taste Nitro Pours vs. Non Nitros. Full of Hippies, but hey, the beer lets you get past them :) Southern Sun seemed to have more taps, but they still had a ton.

waolsen | Two locations in Boulder. Pearl street is small and often crowded. Great selection of beers. Two guest taps on tap at all times as well. The beer is good. Food is very basic. Service is good. This location is a hippie haven. The other location located off Baseline in the southern part of town is much bigger. I am a big fan of this brewery.

JCB | Stumbled across this place on a recent road trip out West, and was really pleasantly surprised. On a hot July day, the cool, simple environment of this brewpub was like an oasis. Though this branch doesn’t have a bar per se, I bellied up to the counter in the back and found myself next to the establishment’s brewer, Brian. A gentleman and excellent conversation partner, Brian led me through a tour of his very fine offerings. I expressed my interest in a refreshing pale, and he hooked me up with four samples. I settled on a pint of XXX and, later, Kind (both really excellent). And he also gave me some of his really interesting and unique Java Porter.
Great place, great experience, great beers! Don’t miss it if you’re in Boulder.

luckygirl | All that’s nice about the hippy vibe in Boulder can be found in at Mountain Sun and it’s sister location Southern Sun. The dining room is open and sunny. Neat murals and jam-band posters on the walls. It can be darn crowded and loud in here after work. Be warned, but don’t be entirely deterred. The staff is, like you know, chill, friendly and low-key. Their beers are decent-to-solid, and there’s usually plenty on tap to choose from. Sometimes a surprising guest tap. The food is stellar; hippy-chow meets pub grub. They have the BEST "clean" burger in Boulder. Overall. Don’t miss it. The vibe is great. And, cool enough, the consistency between the main MS and SS is staggering. If one is packed, try the other—the experience will be the same.

harlequinn | Really decent beers overall, with a decor that was really reminiscent of a Mellow Mushroom. I would go here again
