Pubspy (2), , Ireland does not count - explanation | | November 9, 2011 In my opinion, this place stocks far to many brews on draught to maintain correct standards in regard to keeping beer lines cleaned on a weekly basis. The Guinness I was served here was shite. Not fit for pig swill. | | gopherfan99 (12), | | November 5, 2011 Nice placewith a good selection but the food was a bit average. Service was fast and friendly. | | kbutler1 (65), Minnesota | | October 31, 2011 Strolled in at around 4pm on a Saturday. A couple patrons at the bar sitting. The bartender looks like he just rolled out of bed and came to work after a long night of partying. The beer list was long but not very impressive, I had trouble finding anything that I really wanted to have. Asked about Surly Darkness and he said they didn’t have it and not sure if they would get it. Ok, moving on. I settles on Great Lakes Nosferatu as I haven’t had one in a while. My girlfriend grabs a Farm Girl. The bar looks old and a little dingy. We end up meeting some friends who have little kids and we move to a back room to get to a more kid friendly area. I would say this is not really a kid friendly bar but hey, they weren’t my kids. The waitress was really nice and kept checking up on us. We never ordered any food but it looked and smelled decent. If I were in the area, I would just go to The Happy Gnome, better atmosphere and beers on tap. | | ZMOS (14), Minnesota | | August 11, 2011 A= A really cool "historic" vibe to this bar with stone, dark/aged wood. Also really appreciate their beer/liquor menu.
S= Can be spotty depending on your server. I’ve had really good and then on another visit a very slow and disconnected response.
S= One of the best tap line selections in St. Paul with a nice rotation of products between visits.
F= Tasty sandwiches and appetizers. Good portion sizes.
V= Proportionate to the area and it seems slightly less than the Gnome.
O= Always a great time for enjoying beer. Service could be more consistent. Still... one of my favorite bars. | | emeinz (25), Minnesota | | July 15, 2011 Very excellent tap and bottle selection. There is also a wide variety of scotch available. The food is very excellent. Especially the Cuban sandwich and the tortellini. The staff is pretty awesome. Definitely a regular stop | | ryanfolty (104), Minneapolis, Minnesota | | July 8, 2011 Great St. Paul bar in a great area of town. Only downfall is the service which can be slow due to many patrons and are rushed when they come over so don’t have much time to talk about the beers. | | adnielsen (277), Fort Collins, Colorado | | April 8, 2011 Awesome place in St. Paul to try a wide variety of beers. A few rare ones on tap. I also had dinner (a BBQ pork sandwich) and it was excellent. Must see beer bar if you’re visiting the Twin Cities. | | Smudge (13), St. Paul, Minnesota | | February 10, 2011 I have been here a couple of times. It’s a great place to have a beer and the food is pretty good. Also, I love when they have their "fests" like Belgian Fest, Hop Fest...ect. Pretty awesome. Must stop there. | | Krampus666 (11), Denmark Township, | | January 1, 2011 I love the "Pig!" A book-like beer menu to peruse while enjoying one of many tasty treats. Selection is huge and food tasty. Service was nonchallant. Pricing seems better than the Gnome and I like the historic feel of the old building. Always a great time. Cheers. | | barrelaged1 (10), Beertown, Minnesota | | December 21, 2010 I had been meaning to visit this place for awhile now. After the hunger for a Cuban Sandwich and a great beer, I decided to make it happen. This location is very easy to get to(2 minutes off the freeway) and parking is ample. The restaurant has a somewhat cozy feel to it, and very friendly staff. Great list of brews both on tap and in the bottle. The large chalkboard seems to be kept up to date as well. As far the Cuban Sand, it was awesome!! Overall this is a must stop, go for the food and stay for the beers.
