68 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 carboloader (18) Houston, Texas | May 16, 2013 Visited twice on different days of the week and at different times. The Clear Lake area has really needed a place like this -- Boondoggles has only very limited craft brews. I knew this place was going to be small, and indeed it is. The beer selection and rotation is excellent, as is the upscale Vietnamese pub food. Try the pork fries and, and actually, anything with pork. The two things I can’t seem to get past, but I am remaining hopeful, are (1) the noise level in here is completely absurd, so much that even yelling at the person next to you can’t drown out the insane noise level. Sitting in there for more than 30 minutes is a serious trial in patience (and I’m a Scout Bar regular who loves loud volume when it comes to music). How the servers are not deaf I have no idea. Please get some sound deadening material in there so I can visit again. (2) Put the beer chalkboard in a place where everyone can see it, or get another one. I had to walk up to where I could see the menu, staring at various folks in front of it in order to see what was on tap. And when the place is packed, which is about every afternoon and evening from what I’ve gathered, it’s rather awkward. Other than those two things, this place would be one of my favorite regular watering holes. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 BenDover (3) Texas | January 25, 2013 A craft beer oasis in the middle of a pretty big desert here south of Houston. Huge selection, both on-tap and bottles, including many beers I’m not sure can be had elsewhere in this area. The food menu is somewhat limited - a few appetizers, a few sandwiches, a few noodle and fried rice dishes - but quality is excellent. It’s a rather smallish place with maybe 15 or so tables. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 SudsMcDuff (174) .....Manchester United.........., Texas | January 13, 2013 great new place that just opened in the Clear Lake area, and hell- we needed a craft beer place! very nice affordable food. impressive tap wall (real ale bourbon 15th for one example, also a dedicated sour tap). a cask beer engine. growler fills (32+64oz). very friendly staff. good location for locals and if you’re coming from the freeway. an all around great place to spend a few hours. my new hangout! |
