70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 GMCC2181 (66) Newark , Delaware | November 3, 2012 Located in a wegman grocery store. Plenty of parking. Clean and lots of macro, nice micro selection and wine. Even a small amount of Euro craft beer as well. I found Founders there which was a surprise since its not availble in my area. Overall: I wouldnt make a special trip just to go there but if you are in the area its worth a stop. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 cryfreedmb (12) Ocean, New Jersey | August 9, 2007| Updated April 2, 2008 When Ocean WS first opened I actually thought this is one of the best liquior stores around. Great selection of beers. I love the single beer section. Great prices. Dave the beer guy is very knowledgable and an overall nice guy. The place is extremly clean and has a great set up.
But then about 2 months ago (beginning of the summer) they raised their beer prices. Some beers they raised about 25%. 12 pack of Sam Adams Boston Ale, $16?? Com’on, that’s insane!
But all the other accolades remain but the prices are just to high now. UPDATE: Not sure if Dave the beer guy still works there. Haven’t seen him in months. Haven’t really seen anyone in the beer dept. actually. Also. the brought their beer prices down. Although Liberty Ale at $9 a six pack is still somewhat insane to me. Update: Beer section has fell off recently. Limited rotation among brands and brews, almost none actually.
Same beer week after week. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 dmac (34) Toms River, New Jersey | April 4, 2007| Updated April 2, 2008 Although Spirits in RB still has a larger selection this is my new go to store. Prices are excellent and selection is strong. There is a small, but bigger then SpiritsRB, single bottle section which slowly rotates in different beers. Dave the beer guy is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Since it’s new it’s super clean, now if they can just get their front door fixed so it opens... | 56 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 willblake (81) Bel Air, Maryland | February 19, 2007| Updated January 16, 2008 Update Jan 2008. Dave is gone, Baker is gone, prices are up too much, Hunterdon is clearly losing interest it’s a terrible regression, but understandable as their wine business seems to be the focus and staple. Too bad but, ah, what a difference a year makes. For a while there, this place was taking a lot of the money I had been spending at Red Bank Spirits, but no more. ************ I’ve been holding off for a long time on entering this place because it is pretty new and even though the selection was very good it didn’t really separate itself from the other local good beer stores like Jonathan Ron and the Buy Rite around the corner on 66. But now that just doesn’t seem fair. I mean, I’m going here once a week or more to pick up my staples and the stock is always in great shape of my favs from Stone, Sly Fox, HeBrew, and others. The beer man, Dave is working hard to become a premiere shop and has the distrubitors bringing everything new, plus he’s good for a chat and is completely enthusiastic about his products. I now go here more often than Spirits Red Bank both are ten minutes from home. Each has it’s own merits, but Ocean is really striving to be a great beer retailer and the place is full of smiling faces...it’s the kind of place I’m happy to support.
