| bierkonijn (11), amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 15, 2011 Not the largest selection in the world, but an outspoken and surprising one. That with the great opening hours, and a certain ambiance not every one might enjoy makes this place a just great. For those days you just need a schlenkerla smoked marzen at 3 o’clock at night. | | MonMadsen (65), , Denmark | | December 19, 2010 Visited July 2010. Went there several times on my holidaytrip. Not so much for the selcetion of beers, but for the atmosphere. Cosy, almost local, atmospere though located in a tourist area. Very nice with the monstercat on the table. | | altonbrownd (146), Brussels, Belgium | | July 7, 2010 Okay place in a horrible part of Amsterdam. Couldn’t find any beers to try though as they are all fairly standard. Ripe for deletion. | | ogivlado (242), Zagreb, Croatia | | November 15, 2009 Right behind corner from my hostel. Wooden interior, average beer selection, reasonable prices. Same as at Gollem II, there was a big house cat which was sprawling at the table all the time. Found just one new beer here and surprisingly that was neither Belgian or Dutch; it was German. | | dec23 (12), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 16, 2009 This place is a small gem in the Amsterdam city centre. Open really late for that last good beer to really send you on the way. A small selection but well chosen. You can order big (0.75l) bottles of blue Chimay there, which makes it the ideal last waterhole to visit with your partner or a friend and share a bottle of decent beer. The place has the ambiance of faded Amsterdam glory, with a carpet floor and fancy bar, as if it once was a bar for a select few posh people to go to. Due to the attached hostel you will encounter all kinds of travelers from foreign lands there, as well as some locals who are among the few to know this place. The proprietor is a funny old man who manages the place well, but it’s strictly bar service. Prices are ok for a place that deep in the tourist-trap heart of Amsterdam. The place is worth a visit just to have seen it once, even if you wont encounter a beer there you don’t know. | | Tim Webb (106), Cambridge, England | | August 8, 2009 In the Olofspoort just beyond the northern end of the Red Light District in the narrow streets that link it to Centraal Station. Attached to a basic hotel that will no doubt gain a popularity beyond its merits because of location and the fact it has a canalside beer cafe at the back. In summer it is a fabulous location. Clever range or European beers. Will become better known hopefully. |
