Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. Stopped here for dinner with the wife the other night. This is a really unique cool-looking building. The interior is pretty cool, though it resembles a barn. There’s a nice stage for concerts and whatnot. The lighting is on the dark side, but I liked it. There’s a nice long bar to the right of the entrance that was packed when we arrived. They had 6 of their beers available that night. I got a sampler of 4 of them (5 oz pours) for only $6. Not too bad. I tried their Kolsch, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, and their Chocolate Stout. All of them were above average, but I especially enjoyed the Kolsch and the Stout. Very nice brews. The food was stellar! My wife got the crab bisque and a salad. I got the "Yardbird" chicken sandwich with a salad. The bisque was creamy and smooth with plenty of chunky crab in it. Very good. The salads were good as well as we both really enjoyed their house dressing. My chicken sandwich was good, but nothing special, though they say that’s what people go there for. Meh, it was ok. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely make this a regular stop when I get back to this area. Recommend.

There in the off season in October. Arrived early for dinner, the dining room was mostly empty (but the bar was nicely full) and enjoyed a good meal, quick and friendly service. Had a few beers with a nice relaxing dinner. Nice place and a great time of year to visit.

Went off season so it was very slow, but the service selection and food was pretty good.

Cool wind powered brewery with high ceilings and a friendly staff ... the cuban sandwich I got was huge and tasty and the hushpuppies were excellent ... the beer was all summer on tap (they were out of their strong ale sadly) so I had a brown ale, kolsch, blonde ale and wit to choose from ... There were four of us and the bill was around 100 bucks so it wasn’t too bad 5 bucks a pint and they had a bottle of lemongrass saison to go for 5.99 ... i’d definitely check this place out if your in the area

Nice place to visit and eat dinner. It was a good experience. Good wait staff, though overworked that night. Tough to get really good attention. Food pretty good! Enjoyed the beer.

Stopped in here the other night for a few ticks and a few games of cornhole during my recent trip to OBX (I’ve gone to OBX at least once every year for my entire life, even since I’ve been marooned out west). A great ambiance at this place. Both times I’ve been here, they’ve had a live band playing. This time it was a pretty good reggae band from the reggae hotbed of Washington, DC. Nice large indoor area and a huge outdoor area where you can play cornhole and play on some weird playground thing, if you’re drunk enough to do so. Unfortunately you sometimes have to PAY for this ambiance - there was a $5 cover charge last time I went. Now you know I’m always the guy you can count on to give you the scoop on the cougar scene, even now that I’m engaged. OBX is not exactly a young area, and there are plenty of 40-something cougs on the prowl. If you’re not a complete tool, expect to get hit on, especially if you’re a champion beer ticker like myself, since women can’t resist the allure of a guy like that. I had a rabid pack of cougs approach me (well, they probably weren’t any older than me, but still). A couple of them were rather large specimens, so I had to be very tactful in my backing away. I had beers to tick and cornhole to play. Anyway, I digress. The beers here are hit-or-miss. Some are very mediocre, whereas others, like the Stormy Roses Stout, are excellent. Beers can be served in samplers of about 4oz per beer, which is ideal for ticking. The place is a little understaffed and pretty busy on summer nights, so my advice is to order several beers at once when you can get a bartender’s attention. Food is pretty good. Nothing’s going to blow you away, but it’s above average for such an establishment. Prices are about what you’d expect. Not particularly high or low. Finally, one good convenience of this place is that there are often several cabs waiting outside from about midnight to 2am to take your plastered ass home. Nice place, especially for OBX. I’ll be back next time.

Nice restaurant with home brews. Service was good, but a little slow due to not enough staff / lots of big tables. Food was good, but don’t order the burgers. Apparently NC requires burgers to be medium well... skip this and you’ll do fine.

A friendly place with great food and tasty beer. Stopped in for dinner while visiting my parents and wanted some local suds. I started with their Captain’s Porter which was a very nice porter then moved the the Kolsch (very refreshing) and the Hop Monster (it was OK). All the beer was a tad on the cool side but I’m sure in the summer that is fine since it can get hot outside. The beer was definitely fresh and the staff got them out to me quickly. The food here is a winner, too. Tasty and well priced especially for a place in such a touristy area. It was really nice to find some local beer in the Outer Banks. Good stuff!

Here on vacation 7-31-09...ordered a beer sampler with a side of excellent service...the whole place had a nice hometown feel to it....the beer was good...music as well....love the fact that its a wind powered brewpub (the 1st)...an added plus to the place would be the old school games in the corner, including a sit down pac man!...did not try the food this round, but i’d love to go back for a visit
