| nbutler11 (226), Phoenix, Arizona | | April 21, 2012 Neat space with a good selection on tap. It feels a bit touristy, but has massive potential. The service seemed pretty over it, but I’d recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. | | Maduro54 (11), , | | December 26, 2011 not as good as early 90’s when they were the original but trying after reopening. | | nike (36), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | November 22, 2011 Probably the most underrated brewery, one of Pittsburgh’s best kept secrets. A great local brewery, great prices on drafts, good selection of German style brews, and good prices for their food. A great Oktoberfest stop, and if anyone if looking for something to do in the evenings, a great stop. They now have local bands on the weekends. Parking across the street, brick roads leading into the building (dating back to the mid 1800’s). Worth the visit and revisit! | joecon (3), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | October 5, 2011 Food is okay--The beer is great. Reminds me a lot of German Brewery. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | August 1, 2011 Looks like a 19th century building from the outside and a down at the heel biergarten on the inside. Very small bar with only 5 chairs and lots of long tables. They have 10 things on tap almost all Gernan style brews. Nothing I had was particularly outstanding. Luckilly parking is free and there’s even a covered lot next to the brewery.$10 for a five beer sampler is way overpriced. I’d only come back for the beer tics. | | dmtroyer (24), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | July 28, 2011 Beer selection is on the small side, but generally all are solid offerings.
Food is almost nasty. I ordered the potato pierogies and they brought me out a plate of nasty dry "beer battered cod" pierogies.
Outdoor courtyard is delightful when the weather’s right and reminded me a lot of western europe. | | ttutony (15), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | December 13, 2010 Cool location. Food was excellent but a bit pricey. Beers were great. Had a good time here. | | Brewman63 (39), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | September 7, 2010 I am so glad they are back up and in business full swing again! Was there last for the microbrew festival in June and shortly after they reopened the time before that. Food is still as good as always with some small changes to the menu. Now that they are brewing their beers again (and not contracted out to Lions) the quality is back up to what it was before. And their Pale Ale (their first ale brew) is actually quite good. | whaleale (3), Athens, Tennessee does not count - explanation | | September 29, 2009 What’s the story? I was there on 8/1/09. Had 2 samplers and loved all we tried. The next week I heard they closed. Is there a future for Penn. Their Christmas Ale and Penn Dark were excellent. | Sincerely (7), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2009 Cool place which my girl (a non-drinker) likes the best. Situated up on a hill in a very neat old building with a cool cobblestone entrance way (Cobblestones improved my rating from a 65 to 68). It is never crowded, generally there are too few people there! Cool, long wooden tables accompanied with wooden benches which are often times difficult to get in and out of. Good, though over priced food, and yer standard Penn Brewery beers (Weizen is a good summer treat). Worth a trip every now and then.
-Sincerely |
