Encore merci Chris. | | Chaseman (17), Massachusetts | | January 3, 2012 Went on Columbus day weekend, and it was pretty mobbed. Luckily we had made a reservation, so seating wasn’t an issue, and since we were there for the long haul, didn’t mind if we had a wait a little bit for our food. Had Jolly Pumpkin Madruga Obscura on tap and the Stillwater BA Existent in a bottle along with some other rarities. It was too bad that it was so busy as it made it near impossible to chat with Chris and Jen, but we still had a blast. Food was excellent and the beer selection was amazing. Planning to go back on a quieter weekend to get the full experience. | tendermorsel (5), Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | December 27, 2011 I have spent many a night here. It is the best beer bar in the world. Chris and Jen are the best hosts. The food is great. Especially during the Belgian Beer fest during August when the premier beer chefs in the world are around. There is not a rare beer that does not exist in the cellar. The best of the best of bottles and drafts.
Honestly it is pretty expensive but... Cheaper that a flight to Brussels right? Ii cannot go without spending 100$ but I have never left the place without being completely satisfied.
If you are stateside and you cannot go to Belgium go to Lovell during the Belgian fest, It is as good as anything over there.
| | watson1977 (46), The dub c, Pennsylvania | | October 11, 2011 I visited Ebenezers on a recent to trip to Maine and was super excited to go as I’m from PA and knew that this might be a once in a lifetime chance to visit. Excellent scenic and quaint out of the way location. The bar is situated on a beautiful scenic spot on a golf course in the woods of Maine in a small town of less than 1000. The atmosphere is relaxed...picnic tables on the screened porch and wood tables in a small and tight bar/restaurant that is dimly lit. Minimal tvs and no music...its about the beer. The beer selection is astounding...some tough to find stuff. But the prices reflect it...beer of this quality (we’re talking cantillon, struise, glazen toren, and many others) does not come cheap. The food was mostly good except my fish and chips entree which was soggy and undercooked inside. This may be explained by the high volume of the place and after talking with the owner who personally contacted me regarding this matter it seems to be the exception and not the rule. Service was a bit slow but it was likely tough to accommodate a crowd that was so amped over a Pats game. Id like mkre beer knowledge in my server but I’ve been spoiled by places in the philly area where there is a huge population to draw talent from...not so many beer phanatics in a town of 900. Hope I get there again one day to experience it again. | | swoopjones (175), Buffalo, New York | | September 7, 2011 big expectations to fill here. Very toigh to find & get to & throw in a torrential down pour on top of it. Bar looks great, tons of tins, beer ads etc. 30+ taps all top notch besides Stella. Alvinne Cuvvee Freddy, 4+ sours/flanders on tap at once!!! Food was very good & quick. Earhmonk bottle at $20 was worth it. I wish i hadnt beat myself up so bad the night before at Lion’s Pride. A must stop. It’s not even that far out of the way. Neighborhood of one hour from Allagash | | Travlr (492), Washington, Washington DC | | August 15, 2011 Did the3 hourdrivefrom Hill Farmsteadto try thisfamousplace. Chris and his staff were terrific, and he kept opening beers for usrifht and left all night long (1993 CantillonKriek, 1953 Affligem, to namedrop a few). Food is upscale and tastier than average pub food plus. Beer prices are similar to those in Washington DC, which are high. But with all the free beers, it was awash. Great atmosphere, friendly visitors and locals. Worth going our of your way to visit. | CaribouBill (8), caribou, Maine does not count - explanation | | August 8, 2011 Never a bad day at Ebs...Chris and all of the staff are friendly and obviously have a true love for beer. If you can make it for the Belgian Festival you will leave with a new appreciation for all things Belgian. | digreg (9), lille, France does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2011 A big thank you to Chris for allowing us to spend an extraordinary moment. Great selection of lambics and some treasures shared in the cellar like Suplication and Beatification from the Russian River Brewery. | | Sean9689 (10), Chicago, Illinois | | July 18, 2011 Paid a visit to Ebenezer’s during an East Coast visit with the fiancé. Stopped in during lunch and got a two-top near the bar.
Chris was behind the bar and I introduced myself, since we’ve spoken here and there and told him I would be there. He’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and he had lots of wonderful recommendations and stories to tell about many of the beers.
Ordered several different beers between my fiancé and I: Limoncello IPA, Petrus Aged Pale, Cantillon Cuvee des Champions, and Pannepot Wild (many many times over). All wonderful, to say the least.
We had lunch, which was also wonderful. I would say high-end bar food at the least. I had the steak salad and my fiancé had the Cod with the frites. Both were perfect and very satisfying.
After another beer (or two), Chris was kind enough to take us on "the tour". We drooled at all the wonderful stuff he has down in the cellar and he even shared a Mikkeller Weinbrand Barrel Aged Red Ale with us, which we enjoyed as well.
Once we were ready to head out, Chris was kind enough to give me a Pannepot Wild on the house, which I obviously couldn’t turn down! :-)
What a wonderful experience! Thanks to Chris for making our visit the best possible time! We will, 100%, be back! Cheers! | | OldGrowth (123), North Carolina | | July 16, 2011 visited 07/03/11. Interesting, looks like someones house. On a golf course. Had 4 outdoor picnic tables, but was drizzling so we sat on the screened in porch, bunch of tables, could re arrange to accomadated variuos size groups. Small bar 8 seats with several tables and a area right off bar with a few more tables. Cool glass tap handles. Service did well considering we were a group of 10. Food was ok, nothing crazy good, that I tried. I had fish and chips, it was a little doughy for my overall preference. but I like a cornmeal/crumb based coating generally. I was staying nearby, about a half hour away so worth a visit. My friend has a story of getting there early while riding his mototcycle with another guy and owner saw them pull in and opened up early for them made them a rueben as full kitchen wasn’t ready yet, so bonus points for that. But I wouldn’t got out of my way for cause this is out of the way and could make for a long ride home. but still, worth it if it’s within close proximity. |
