| bobbypaulson (37), , Minnesota | | March 25, 2011 [ Updated April 7, 2011 ] This place rocks I spent a lot of time here while I was in college. It’s totally a dive bar. It’s actaully kinda funny because on the top of this building is a very upscale eatery and then one floor below that is a dinnerish type place and then the underground is this bar. It’s great the tap selections is decent, but the bottle selection is amazing. This is were I first got acclimated with the craft beer world right here. | | DiarmaidBHK (281), Pennsylvania | | January 1, 2011 Place looks like a dungeon but they have the most amazing beer selection in state college. | Boodoggy (1), does not count - explanation | | June 3, 2010 It’s an old cozy dive bar with bar tenders that know and care about thir beer. When I first went there in the 80’s if you asked for a light beer they gave you a glass of water. If you are a beer geek and can’t get to a good selection or the craft brewers this place will rock your world. Go early or on a week day avoid game day in football season unless you get there early. Excellent bottle selection. West Coast, East Coast and imports. Just ask and they will help or find the " beer guy or girl" who will help. Enjoyed a Lost abbey Bourbon Barrell Angel Share with another beer guy there recently and the bar tender was impressed that we knew what we were drinking!!! Its in the middle of Pa and it has great cask beer too. Can’t go wrong if you like real beer | rkeller378 (6), Alabama does not count - explanation | | January 2, 2010 Still there after 30+ years. Used to go there when I was in college. Hope to return in the fall. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | December 31, 2009 [ Updated November 6, 2011 ] Underneath the corner. Small, dimly lit dark wood, both wall paneling and 8-person bar. It got pretty crowded on a Wednesday. Bit of a draft from the door, so be careful which seat you grab. 30 taps/pumps and as good of a bottle selection as I’ve seen between Youngstown and Philly, probably Sharp Edge’s biggest "Belgian" rival within the area. Somewhat expensive, but the to-go discount was nice, given their selection. Had a good Belgian and local micro mix, plus some lambics and west-coast stuff. Also a few rarities for this side of the state: 3 Font. Schaar, Bruery Hott, and still some Voodoo Black Magick. Dave was a huge help at the bar, let me sample some stuff before picking out 1-2 and hooked me up nicely. I’ll definitely plan to stop in regularly. | | iggynelix (11), Pennsylvania | | October 30, 2009 classic town-basement pub. local musicians, live music and a strong 100+ bottle list. remarkable for a small town. always packed with college students. do not wear a tie. cheap for the offerings. | | TreborWhip (17), Reading, Pennsylvania | | September 22, 2009 [ Updated February 12, 2010 ] I have decided to remove my previous comments after exchanging "beer mail" with Zeno’s manager. I rated everything about average or better so as not to skew the average rating by other customers. I plan to visit Zeno’s on my next visit to State College, meet with Dave personally, and submit a proper review at that time. | | wilsomb (28), State College, Pennsylvania | | June 24, 2009 This place is a gem. They have the best selection for miles with over 30 taps and casks. There is live music all the time and an overall great bar feel. Highly recommend if you are in the area. It can get crowded if the undergrads are around, though. | | vze1mhay (14), Stroudsburg, | | June 16, 2009 Good place to duck away for a few excellent brews. Not to crowded for location next to PSU campus- not a place for funneling. Can’t wait to go back again | | Naka (11), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | January 6, 2009 Yes, yes, yes. This place is outstanding. This is not a place to come and dance, or do beer bongs, or take jello shots, like so many other places in State College. This place is where people who want outstanding beer come to drink. It is dark, dingy, (I wish the bathrooms didn’t follow this trend quite as thoroughly) and full of great beer, especially in the western / central PA market. Their beer menu is listed by styles, so for people who may be new to the beer world, there is some guidance. I had a bowl of clam chowder from the restaurant portion upstairs and it was pretty decent. My only real problem with the place is that there are quite a few beers on their menu that they didn’t have. There was one that they did have, but "it was buried and didn’t think they should sell it yet." Why have it on the menu? If you want character, selection, and possibly herpes from a toilet seat, it doesn’t get much better. |
