64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 Boudicca (367) London, England | February 2, 2013 An old pub with a new twist. The Polished Knob is a new pub in an old pub, if you see what I mean. It was closed for a number of years but reincarnated and reopened with a new name in 2010. It’s in one of those elegant old stone buildings typical of Lancashire and the Calder Valley towns, just opposite the open air market. Inside it’s been opened out a bit but some of the nice old floor tiles remain and there are scrubbed pine tables. The television football commentary was rather loud when we were there but it was Boxing Day, when football games are traditional in some circles. A drum kit was being set up for music later in the day.
There are six hand pumps with craft beers mainly from local-ish breweries. It has the feel of a community pub. They do food – home made pies and burgers – and also a selection of mulled wine and winter warmers (hot chocolate and spiced coffees).
