56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 humlelala (27) , Denmark | April 25, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 Small bar next to Borough Market. Spinoff of Uto Beer or is it the other way around? Small room with worn down interior. Has wi-fi. 6 taps and 3 cask pumps. Outdoor terrace with parasol and heaters extends their capacity somewhat. This place is likely to be crazily cramped on a Friday evening. Chaps behind the bar very likeable and knowledgeable about beer. Beer selection from the fridge is definitely wide enough to satisfy most Ratebeerians. I would estimate there are around 100 bottles available. On tap the selection is a bit more limited. For example, when I visited there wasn’t a single US hopped beer available on tap. Not that that is necessarily bad as the bar manager will likely know his stuff and as a customer one can only respect those choices - it only serves to examplify the potential downside of the relatively small amount of taps to choose from. All in all a good place that is worth a visit if in London and visiting Bankside / Borough Market even if the small space available means it’s more like a taproom for Utobeer than an actual craft beer pub. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Brugmansia (256) Jylland, Denmark | April 22, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 Visited several times. Easy to get to this pub, placed very central at Borough Market, good variation on beers on tap and a good selection of bottle beers as well. Friendly and serviceminded staff, beers are mostly in a good condition. There is a beersgarden as well, which actually are bigger than the pub it self :-). The pub isn´t very big though, so it can at times be crowded. Have been there a few times for a smaller beerfestival as well. For sure worth a visit if you are in the area.. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 lassem (34) Copenhagen, Denmark | April 10, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 This place is pretty tiny but with a Nice little beer gården outside. On the Wall you will find signatures and greetings from brewers from around the World. Quite a fun thing. Their fridages showed quite a fine selection of bottled beers. We went for the taps though, (I guess there were 8-10). We had a few, but they were not that interesting and a few actually seemed a bit old and oxidised. A little expensive too compared too many other beer bars in London. Well, we might have hit a bad day. And the place deserves a retry. Nice staff. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 suprchunk (70) Heinsberg, Germany | March 24, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 Very nice selection of taps. Very small inside. Somewhat small outside and very limited seat space. But it is cozy and a good time with friends in tow. Decent price, walk up bar. I swear I have rated this place before, don’t know what happened? Definite must go to if you are wasting money at Uto anyway. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tomer (31) Rishon Le Zion, Israel | February 26, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 Small cramped place wit han adjacen patio, the tap list is small and and excellent, the bottle list is also really good. No food but who needs food when you are just ouside Borough Market. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 SudsMcDuff (174) .....Manchester United.........., Texas | January 20, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 had heard about the Rake for years before my trip, so i had to stop by.
6-7 taps, a few were interesting but nothing i really got excited about.
Decent bottle selection, expensive but again- nothing earth shattering.
small place, but cozy i guess. nice back patio.. would go again i suppose but definitely was expecting A LOT more!! | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 foxo82 (17) Tamworth (via Leicester), England | January 8, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 Small place - a single room with adjoining patio - tucked away around the back of Borough Market, a stone’s throw from London Bridge tube station. Really very small - perhaps space for four tables. Bar staff are friendly and informative. I saw 8 taps including Kernal, Nogne O and Oakham ales. Fridge behind the bar contains 100+ bottles, mostly Belgian, German and American but a few others from around Europe and Australia. I did ask about a bottle menu but they don’t have one since the stock is rotated regularly. Didn’t see food on offer but didn’t look. Pricey - Kernel £6 per pint - but this is a craft beer establishment in London so you get what you pay for. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 sir__v (25) Lille, France | January 8, 2013| Updated May 6, 2013 This is a really nice bar in London, really friendly. It was a pleasure to drink beers there. Service is efficient and the place is clean. There is an outdoor place and the bar is smart. Selection is amazing, on taps there are Thornbring, The Kernel, Nogne... NICE ! Bottles selection great also ! | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | December 22, 2012| Updated May 6, 2013 The Rake is ... well the Rake !
It’s not big, it’s not the place to go for a cosy sit down and relaxing evening, you simply hit it running, put a couple of quality beers down you in 45 minutes and move on. Always a bustling busy atmosphere of an evening - I like !
Good selection and a bit pricey in places, but there’s always something to hold my interest on tap or in the fridge.
It’s in a bustling some may say ’trendy’ area of London, so no point coming here and harping on about your local beer prices - get over it!
Service has always been decent when I’ve visited, despite the cramped bar area.
Can be combined with Brew Wharf and the Market Porter as a mini crawl, all 3 minutes apart. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 CamdenD (39) Madrid, Spain | December 18, 2012| Updated May 6, 2013 Fantastic spot in a great location. Always an interesting selection of draft beer. Prices are not cheap but then again, it’s London. Nice focus on local ale. |
