RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
The brainchild of the owners of the Brickskeller, RFD takes off in a different direction than the Brick. Beer cuisine takes front and center at this upscale establishment one block from the MCI Center. There are beer soups and salads with Kriek dressing. Most entrees are cooked with beer, and the desserts have beer in them as well. Other food, such as their cheese boards and sandwiches, are designed to pair well with beer. The 30 taps include Belgians and contributions from DFH, Old Dominion, and many other quality brewers. And while it doesn’t have the Brick’s bottle selection, roughly 300 bottled beers available is nothing to sneer at.

Sammy | The same owners own a couple of places. a good long bar, people from wherever, and conventional and unadventerous beers whether tap or bottle. Good size inside, created relaxation while wiating for the traffic to clear. I saw a dozen or so taps, a few crafts on but the wheats and the like. I saw 100 or so different bottles, again a few local craft but mostly the popular ones. AT the bar, they were drinking Heinekins and hard liquor which is unusual for where I have been to over the past 5 years.

JoeMcPhee | Nice long tap list with a pretty nice selection of stuff from across the US. Lots of bottles as well, although nothing terribly difficult to find. Prices were fair but the service was pretty slow. Probably the kind of place you need to visit multiple times in order to really assess. I’d like to try again sometime soon.

can8ianben | I remember this place to have a great beer menu, very solid food, but somewhat slow service. We were there right before a hockey game and that may have contributed to the packed house and slower service. Well worth checking out.

dmtroyer | A must for a verizon center trip. Whatever they wanted this to be, it has turned into a sports bar for 30 year old male lobbyists and their assorted hangers on. If you can look past that you will have a good time. The selection is huge but not necessarily anything too unseen. Basically everything mainstream available in the DC area.

General_Gao | So so draft beer and bottle selections. The day I visited they didn’t have anything that unusual. I had a Fordham Fleet Wheat, a Troegenator Double Bock, and a Raven Special Lager. If you can only visit one place I’d say you’re better off at The Brickskeller. The food was very average. Sports bar feel. Looked like there was a beer garden in the back.

| buckygoldstein | Great place before going to Verizon center, if Fado’s is packed. Food is tolerable. Beer selection is best in the Verizon center area. Happy hour specials suck. Sometimes I am surprised what is on tap but it’s usually the extras from an beer event.
Pretty much a sausagefest on any night.

Holdwine | I like it for the beer selction and the food is pretty decent, but the service is off and the ambience is lacking. Go for the beer, stay for the food and don’t let the rest piss you off.

| quidire | RFD really has declined since it opened about five years ago. The crowd there seems rather rough, and the ambience is approaching that of a sports bar.

| chimay67 | Overall a very solid beer bar. Very diverse crowd, lots of energy, especially on nights where something is going on at the MCI center. Food was ok, Bar space is at a premium but there are plenty of tables. Service was efficient, but the bartenter took the bottle of Expedition Stout I was not finished with, almost shed a tear. But then she realized the mistake and brought it back. Quite a few Bells available here.

BückDich | Nice bar a short jaunt from Chinatown. Large place with many different areas to drink. The back section especially was a nice treat during the RBSG. Large selection of bottles and nice selection of taps, very competitive to the Brickskeller in quality terms. Food was decent, and I came back here probably 3 times in the course of a week.
