| mikehops (10), Illinois | | May 22, 2012 Over priced. Food was average. Beer was ok at best. | | mikem409 (40), bloomfield, Michigan | | January 7, 2012 decent beer sometime food is so so. nice beer garden in the summer time and close to royal oak action. | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | January 1, 2012 (Visited 08/2011): Royal Oak, one of several brewpubs in the city, is located in the heart of downtown on E 4th not too far off Main Street. Metered parking is available all around.
The interior has a cozy feel of wood, brick and maroon colors. The bar is along the right side and boasts a direct view to the tanks. Large historical pictures adorn the walls, and there is a beer garden out back.
Royal Oak’s beer list consists of 5 brews, and are available in a sampler. On my visit the options were Northern Light, Summer Wit, Royal Pride IPA, Pappy’s Porter and India Ink Black IPA. All of the beers are decent.
Service on a slow weekday early afternoon was good. The guy tending bar gave the impression that he has been there awhile and knew the beers and the history of the place.
I did not try any food on my visit.
Overall I favored the beers slightly more at Bastone but aside from that I would still recommend a stop here. | | jrallen34 (207), Chicago, Illinois | | December 22, 2011 this place is a skip even though its close ot Bastone... generic chain bar interior, generic cheap bar food and most of the beers are not good at all... don’t bother | | RudiNicole (77), Michigan | | December 6, 2011 Nice inside, good food, friendly bartender. I’m a girl, but I usually ask the bartender "What’s your favorite?" before I make my beer decision, and here I got the standard "The IPA, but it’s very bitter." Give me a break dude. It wasn’t even that bitter. Sub-par beers in my opinion. | Johnsfolly (1), , does not count - explanation | | October 29, 2011 ESB was thin. Cram stout was good but not exceptional. All beers were served to cold. Nice crowd of people seem to frequent the place. | | donttreadonme (23), Chicago, Illinois | | March 26, 2010 This is a really cool converted old building with hardwood floors, a great pool area, a nice little beer garden, great fare and some pretty good brews. I hit this place whenever I’m in town and have never been disappointed. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | January 30, 2010 Parking around here seemed to be at a premium, and I almost got hypothermia making the 3 block walk to the pub. The place was full on a Thursday night. I had a decent dinner of fish and chips and a couple solid brews. This place won’t blow your socks off for originality and doesn’t have much in the way of any outside the box beer offerings. But it’s a solid choice nonetheless. (Quietly, this was my 500th brewery visited). | MereLikesBeer (4), Royal Oak, Michigan does not count - explanation | | August 7, 2009 I had dinner here tonight with BeerBaron617. It’s right down the street from me, but I haven’t really been here all too often..In fact, maybe only five times. Inside, the restaurant looks nice and has a great atmosphere. We had a great waitress, very friendly and helpful. (although, I have been here and the service was terrible). Our beers were quite tasty. I had fish and chips - pretty hard to screw up, but it was tasty none the less. Good overall this time. | | BeerBaron617 (25), Royal Oak, Michigan | | August 7, 2009 Had dinner here tonight. Very casual atmosphere, and nice scenery. The service was great, and the beer was better than average, I had the IPA. The food was a huge surprise, considering the venue. I had the pesto gnocchi, served with a great cheesy garlic bread that was to-die-for when dipped in the extra saucy pasta. My friend(MereLikesBeer) had the Red Ale, and the fish and chips, which she said was just average. I thought it was great though. Cheers! |
