| rougeau13 (54), Texas | | May 16, 2012 Lived in Houston forever and just now went to check it out. It’s cool, and if it’s a little overcrowded, it’s not their fault. Houstonians just need to get with the program and open more breweries to give us more options. Big tables, bring lawn chairs, games, the family, and your own food. Nice deal, and a good time. Haven’t done the tour yet though. Maybe next time. And maybe some kind of specialty brew would be nice, but those are rare from St. Arnold. | | BMan1113VR (279), Los Angeles, California | | November 10, 2011 Rating for the new brewery. Great tour and a very worthy stop. Stopped by on a Monday and it was still pretty busy. Great value, you buy the glass and get tokens. Tour was nicely informative and guided by a very spirited Brock Wagner. Massive brewery with lots of room to grow. Beer service area is a massive brew hall with two different draft stations. They do have a beer engine, but apparently it hasn’t been operated in months. No specialty beers on tap during my visit, but still got two new beers I haven’t had (being out of Texas for a while). Rootbeer was very stellar on tap. I had a blast and would visit any time that I’m in Houston. | | RudiNicole (77), Michigan | | April 25, 2011 Visited the old location once, and the new downtown location twice. Never went on the brewery tour. You bring your own food, and they have huge tables for guests to sit at. Come early to get a seat at a table, as they fill up fast on weekends. A great deal, admission gets you 3 draft pulls and a tasting glass, and for $6 more you can buy a souvenir pint glass and fill that instead. A must visit in Houston. | | HumanBeing (10), Houston, Texas | | November 30, 2010 super awesome, the staff is phenominal | | boomerbrew (14), Texas | | October 15, 2010 8 oz. sample on tap and tour at the brewery - Loved the tour but wish it was about 30 minutes longer because I still have one token left. Ambiance was great, the whole place is like a big Catholic church - and i remember drinking that communion wine as a kid... Service - very personable but could have used another server. Tour (owner) very nice and a few dry jokes but did good job and was around afterwards to answer questions. Plenty of brews to choose from (see Octoberfest, Amber Ale, and Wheat ratings). For $7 you get a tour and (4) 8 oz. samples and keep the glass. You can trade it in an get a dollar off other glasses or other items. Overall I really enjoyed the hour or so. | | carboloader (17), Houston, Texas | | June 23, 2010 This is the cheapest and most fun social drunkfest in all of Houston. I have been to their old brewery half a dozen times, and the "Newery" located downtown in the old HISD brick building is phenomenal. The people are great, the beers are good (not great), and for a meager price of $7 you get 4 pint sized brews (if you bring a Saint Arnold pint glass or buy one there). Do the math of stealing your designated driver’s tokens, and you can see how getting completely blotto’d in 2 hours is easy. Elissa IPA is their best regular offering in my opinion. But beware, the move to Newery and the new equipment is still being adjusted so the beers coming out lately are nowhere near the same quality. Brewmaster Michael assured me that they are aware of the problem and that new batches are being adjusted accordingly. (I.e., Elissa is being adjusted to get the good old fruity hops like it used to have). I am also on their MS150 cycling team, so I have had many visits to the Newery. Support these folks. Bring your own food for the visit and prepare for a giant noisy wooden tasting room. | | AndyReynolds (42), Wilder, Kentucky | | May 22, 2010 $7 gets you four beers. Be sure to buy a glass, because they will fill it for you instead of the 8oz tasting glass. Good service. | | ericandersnavy (35), Denton, Texas | | October 20, 2009 went down to houston for a tasting with cavie and had to stop by for a tour. the setting is great. not to crowded and the lines move rather quick. have most of the SA on tap with the seasonal. will go back so i can get more of the 9 oz tasting glasses. | | Cavie (80), Fort Worth, Texas | | October 18, 2009 Fun place. Drove down for the Saturday tour; second to last one at the old location. Listened to a speech for the first 30 min and then got to drink. I wish they would let you get a beer first and THEN talk, but this worked too. Didn’t get to check out the brewhouse even though I reallllly wanted to. Picked up a cool tasting glass and got to try the Christmas ale on tap, as well as the root beer. Fun time, and it’s in a very nice neighborhood! | TopherJackson (5), Houston, Texas does not count - explanation | | August 1, 2009 Fun place, 6 beers on tap, 5 bucks covers a cool tasting glass and 4 pours. Tip: get there an hour ahead, buy one of the pint glasses and you get 4 pints! Probably about 500 people show up. |
