Lovely old victorian building with a light and airy feel inside. Decor was a pleasing antidote to brewdogification: quaint, english and homely. Not a massive selection of beers available, with an emphasis on cask but there was no filler. Offerings from Siren on cask with both evil twin and brew by numbers on draught along with more traditional local fare this place has you covered. Would happily have spent an afternoon here in the lovely high walled garden to the rear were we not on a strictly marshalled itinerary of the area. Top notch.

A really nice old pub retaining an earthy charm of yesteryear. There are several misshapen rooms with a few interesting artefacts dotted around (for example a lovely old Bornholmer-style clock and some sort of cabinet with old pump handles). The beer list was excellent, with lots of choice. Well worth seeking out. (Visited 16 February 2015).

I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s always got something on I want to drink. It will always be well priced, and in good nick. The staff are friendly, and know their beer. But, quite frankly, the place is well due a good clean. The missus point blank refuses to step through the door. Thirds aren’t normally available, even for the big stuff. Social media is well utilised to show beers on the bar. A lot is done right. Could be way better, though.

Visited february 2015 with beery friends. Oldstyle, large multi roomed pub, within walking distance from the station, not to difficult to find. Really liked the room with the big " Bornholmer ". Cosy amosphere and helpfull staff. Good selection of beers both on cask and kegs, served in good condition. Few bottles as well. For sure worth a visit.

Visited the 8th November 2014. Really nice place near to the centre of Sheffield. The outside is a little bit sadly but inside the ambiance is cool. Really strange pub by the design, it’s look like a house. The selection is great and the price is smart. About the ambiance, the pub is less noisy than the Kelham Island, really less! Good feeling inside with the people and the staff is really amazing. Friendly and helpful. The place is little bit dirty but it’s ok. Good place in Sheffield.

It didn’t look like much from the outside, despite the imposing size of the place, but once inside you know that you are in somewhere pretty special. Not that you can see a lot initially as there is a gentle darkness to the place. Once your eye’s have adjusted and you take in the lengthy row of handpulls and fonts and the lovely barmaid ready and willing to take you through the different beers available, you know that you are in a good spot. Excellent pub.

Best ran Sheffield alehouse by miles. Great, well kept, real ales from all over UK and, recently added couple of European craft beers and always an American craft on the keg too. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, really friendly pub, super value prices. It does get busy On Saturday night

Regularly changing guest cask beers from all over the country, argualbly the best pub in Sheffield for obscure beers / new ticks. When not busy the staff kindly offer cellar runs on top of the good choice!

Lots of good cask ale, often with an emphasis on the pale & hoppy, some decent bottles and the occasional interesting keg beer. The service is outstanding, I’ve always found Shakespeare’s very friendly. The decor might be a down at heel for some but for me this is one of the very best pubs in town.

Located just a minute or so from the Kelham Island Tavern on what has to be one of the best pub crawl routes in England. The ambiance is a little less inviting than other pubs in the area. The seating’s a bit awkward. There’s no carpets, not much in the way of decoration. This place used to put on a lot of noise/experiemental gigs, it retains a stripped-down vibe. The selection’s pretty big, well-curated. There were about 8-10 cask options plus a few beers on keg. Plenty of local stuff plus some arcane options from around England. The service was decent. The prices are great, quite cheap indeed. Overall, this place lacks the charm of a pub like the Kelham Island Tavern, but it still has a worthy selection of ales.
