| boxofrane (16), pottstown, Pennsylvania | | December 3, 2011 Amazing selection. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Best PA has to offer. Also, prices are $5-$10 less on most cases. | | 41cubs (23), , New Jersey | | November 16, 2011 Good, good, good spot. Great selection, welcoming and willing service and awesome prices. PA sucks the fattest one on that ridiculous case only law but if I’m buying cases, I’m buying them here. One example, St. Bernardus Christmas for 99.99 per case, that’s wicked cheap. The value was everywhere in the store and I must say I definitely noticed some old stuff, but if some stouts and barleywines are sitting around a couple years so be it, thanks for aging it for me. Check the dates on all other stuff and I’m sure you’ll leave happy. | | chimay67 (58), hunt sta, New York | | May 1, 2011 Two things to address anyone’s concerns about Shangys’. First if you are buying a number of cases, walk in, ask for help and give the employee your list. Simple as that. Second, yes, there is some old stock on the piles, do your due dilligence and check any cases before you pay for them. If you are doubtful about the possible packaging date, do yourself a favor and don’t buy it.
Otherwise, any self respecting beer geek should not hate on this place. Do they have everything ever brewed, no. But do they have stuff to make the drive from LI, NY worthwhile and more, you bet! Should they have old stock on their shelves, no, but most places I know in LI are not very dilligent about moving older product to the clearance rack.
I found the prices on 95% of the items looked at to be more than reasonable, and some downright cheap. Last Dec I got a case of Black Ops for $223. Insane! This trip was another Bell’s O Rama.
Tons of Lost Abbey, Pizza Port, Terrapin, Bell’s, Founders, New Holland, Stone, on and on. Huge craft can selections for those looking to make your golf/camping buddies jealous.
Apparently they are working on a website so you can have a better idea as to what they have available. | TheCorkStops (8), Connecticut does not count - explanation | | January 29, 2011 Great place if you know what you want. They’ve got just about every beer you can get in eastern PA. | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | April 19, 2010 Definitely gotta do your homework before you come here because I don’t trust the owner one bit. I have heard many stories from distributors complaining about this guys business practices. Having said all of that this place does have the best selection of beer in Eastern PA. They have tons of hard to find seasonals, imports and micros and they are priced well. The help here is fantastic and they have everything clean and nicely stacked. Most of the beers have a description on them along with the price so that helps a lot. | clueo (1), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | March 28, 2010 A great distributor with an outstanding selection. Prices are the best in the area and the staff is very helpful. Beer reveiws are also helpful. While I agree with other reviewers that you need to check the expiration dates, I have bought many cases and have never had an issue, although I have heard others complain. The best overall selection by far in Eastern PA! | fogdoctor (2), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | January 4, 2010 On the plus side, its massive, clean, and had a great selection. If you are buying beers that take age well or domestics with a high turnover its hard to beat. Check the dates of beers that are to consumed young because, due to its size, the turnover is not that great on some of the higher priced offerings. The prices are a somewhat high and the service is terrible (to be generous). Since its PA you have to get cases - but its not their fault. A decent place overall and worth the visit, although certainly not beer heaven. | | Glouglouburp (259), Montreal, Quebec | | September 23, 2009 Very large beer store. You walk around with a cart and circle piles of nicely displayed cases. Good selection, as good as I have seen in Pennsylvania. But doesn’t rival in numbers the selection you can find in surrounding states like NJ. Pennsylvania is not the greatest east-cost state to shop for beer but this store does have a very good selection of American and import (mostly Belgian). IMPORTANT NOTE: Me stupid Montrealer didn’t know about stupid PA law. YOU CAN ONLY BUY CASES at this store. I bought a case of Expedition and was on my way. I must say I was mostly impressed by the prices. They only sell by the case but the prices are good. | upinya (1), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | September 2, 2009 Great selection, but if your buying by the keg pay close attention to the expiration date. They tried to sell me a three year old keg once, but when brought to their attention replaced it with a new one no questions asked. | | Beardface (37), Eugene, Oregon | | October 23, 2008 Dr. Beardface and his bff Fruchter ditched the lousy Jew Webz and took off for Pennsylvania to fulfill the left coaster’s extreme desire for Bell’s beers...they were not disappointed. After trekking up the silly hill to the front door, the bffs were blown away by the massive selection. Their first thought: what the fuck is up with all these random macrobrews? These walls may contain the world’s largest selection of ice beers, but that is no crime because of the presence of the world’s greatest brew: Beer30 Ice! Sadly for those hoping to hear more of this legendary beer, we had bigger fish to fry. After much deliberation upon the Bells beers, it was decided that a variety pack was in order since Fruchter’s roommate Shaun had some Two Hearted back at the homestead. An added bonus was that a case of Siberian Night was also able to be procured, another beer that I had a jack bauer for. Truly an amazing store, and I will sure to visit again on my next trip back east. |
