| boxofrane (16), pottstown, Pennsylvania | | May 14, 2012 Cool place. Hit this for my bachelor party. Had wings and raw oysters, solid. Selection was decent but nothing crazy. Drank Deviant Dale’s on tap, solid. Would go back again. | | JFGrind (72), Glenside, Pennsylvania | | November 30, 2011 Beautiful corner bar in South Philly that on most evenings has a good bar and dinner crowd. The bar area has an open feel to it even when crowded. Beer selection is above average, and always good local brews on tap in addition to craft beers from around the country. Service at times can be off, when the place is busy some of the Hipster-Doofuses on the staff just can’t hack it. Plenty of comfort food on the menu and I like the goblets they serve the beer in as well. My buddies and I like to use the bar as a jump off point for attending events at the stadium area. You can park near the SPTR for free, and then walk to Broad & Snyder to take the Broad Street Line to Pattison Avenue (aka AT&T) stop. | | rouxsean (10), , | | November 18, 2011 Large selection of rotating taps. How often do they rotate? The beer names are written in chalk on the tap handles. | | michael-pollack (100), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | | September 6, 2011 Bar ambiance. Slow service. Decent tap and bottle selection. Ok, overpriced food. A bit over-priced for what it is. Not likely to return. | chugmaster (3), , does not count - explanation | | January 29, 2011 Great beer, Great decor, Lousy service, Lousy food, had the cheese steak sliders which tasted like steak-ums & the fish soup at the time that my wife got had several bones in it. | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | January 19, 2011 Nice place in south philly good ambiance and look, music playing, friendly and a staff that knows their beer. The tap list was a nice mix of local and some nice cali ipa’s $5-$6 bucks a 12oz to 16oz and happy hour was half off local brews .... Menu was limited but a nice mix had the cheesesteak sliders which were delicious. Check out the bottle shop/coffee shop down the next block that has almost all of their bottle list but just about half the price. All in all SPTR is definitely worth a stop in. | | jmm635 (66), Havertown, Pennsylvania | | July 13, 2010 Very nice place in South Philly away from the hustle and bustle. This place can get crowded and noisy, and hot in the summer, so be prepared. Nice tap list. Pretty varied and representative of the local flavor. The food was really good. Try the grilled cheese and tomato lager soup. It won’t disappoint. | dagimp (7), Philly, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | October 23, 2009 A couple of blocks west of Broad on Mifflin. Bartender was very nice and attentive. I went during happy hour so I got a good deal on local drafts, however, their selection is so good i had to get a couple at full price ($5, which is also a good deal). Wings weren’t very good but I ordered the steak sliders which were. Unfortunately they put cheese on them when I asked for none, a common occurrence in my world. Over all, a great place to have a beer and a very good place to eat. I didn’t run into any jerks. It can get kinda loud due to the setup but hey, it’s a small price to pay for a great place. | | HereForTheBeer (12), Brattleboro, Vermont | | January 17, 2009 The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, pouring us a few samples before we decided on a pint...I had the Riverhorse Oatmeal Milk Stout, Amy had a Pliny the Elder Double IPA. Beer selection was good and focused primarily on the local breweries, it looks like there are about 12 taps here, and a small but decent bottle selection.
The food was good - Amy had the eggplant parmigiana and I enjoyed a rustic sandwich. We shared a Mediterranean plate.
The atmosphere was very corner bar, with an elevated / second floor seating area with tables and a long bar on the lower level. The music was searingly loud, especially considering the small crowd.
There are some good happy hour specials to be had - no complaints about getting a cheap pint of a good beer - that’s for sure.
Between SPTR and the Devils Den, its nice to see some good beer bars making their way into South Philly.
| | santos999 (15), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | January 16, 2009 This is a great little spot in a quiet neighborhood is South Philly. The atmosphere is very relaxing, and the color scheme and decor make me feel right at home. Service was okay but not great. It was real slow but somehow, once I had my food, I managed to sit with an empty glass for about 10 minutes. The selection was stellar. All the taps had something interesting (I had Pliny the Elder and Philly Joe), and the bottle selection, while rather small, is on point. Port, Abbey, Cantillon, Weyerbacher Riserva, De Ranke, just to name a few. The food we had was alright but nothing great. I had a burger with the standout part being the bun. It was a bit pricey but nothing terrible. I can’t wait to get back to this joint. |
