Stallhagen

The Åland islands, several thousand of them speckled across the Baltic Sea, are wonderful. Like flat Faroës without the sheep, and prosperous. Swedish speaking but a largely autonomous part of Finland. This is the oldest brewery, the first to get a proper pub and shop. Wood-lined in understated medium-dark colours, all 12 or so beers, and some studied local cooking - roughly four mains and a pudding. Miles from anywhere. The opposite of city life.

Very rustic ambiance with long thick wooden tables in the bar room, that is next to the brewery. Great outside patio. Brewery tours are available. Food is basic, of good quality. The only problem is that someone has to drive home from the place and then can’t drink the beer!

A pub conjoined with the Ålandic brewery. This is a pretty decent place. It’s picturesquely set out in the countryside with apple farms all around, in a building resembling a farm house. They have a nice patio and a small stream running near, so it’s easy to enjoy yourself there on a sunny day. The bar features mostly stallhagen beers from the brewery next door. When I visited, they didn’t have too many though (5 on tap, no bottles), as they seem to be in great demand right now. Finer- type food, brewery tours available (should be booked in advance). Overall a nice experience.

As a lucky coincidence they were having a "Beer festival" when we were in Åland. Went for the second day and paid €15 entrance fee (it also included a bus ride to and from Mariehamn...). They had four beers on tap, of which two ran out in a few hours, and no bottles were available for purchase. Being a "Beer festival" I expected a better selection. Food was quite good though.

"Ett inställt bryggeribesök är också ett bryggeribesök". Hade planerat detta besök med ölsällskapet i flera månader. Ett 20-tal ölentusiaster är laddade för detta besök när Stallgagen helt sonika gör sig oanträffbara. Sista kontakten vi får tyder på ointresse för vårt planerade besök och sista veckan går det ej att nå dom vare sig via telefon eller mail. Besvikna får vi avboka radikalt i sista stund

A very nice place at the Ålandic countryside. Offering a broad selection of Stallhagen’s own beers and some food which apparently varies day by day. The burgers and fish meal tried was excellent and there was the chance to taste a larger sortiment of their own beers. I would’ve liked a beer list, though.

As I was knocking on the door and it was cloesd, I figure that I could rate this place after going so far... Went there on the Monday and of course that was the the only weekday it wasn’t open. Anyhow I thought that I did a good reserch cheeking thier website + mailing the contact person asking about opening hours - without any answer (looking back I could have looked at the local guide to Åland, that were handed over when going on the ferry från Grisslehamn (Sweden) to Åland (Finland). Guess that effected the rating level!
