| djd07 (22), Houston, Texas | | January 24, 2012 An impressive selection of bottles with cantillon, nogne and struise. Friendly staff willing to help you find what you are looking for. Amazing sandwiches. I will always stop here everytime I am in New Orleans. | | LSUPT (10), Louisiana | | October 13, 2011 Delicious smelling deli with a great beer selection, a bit cramped but Stein’s has the best selection in Nola. Dan is very helpful and always attentive to the wants on his customers. If it’s available in the area ask Dan and he’ll do his best to help you out. Busy guy as the deli does a ton business though. Great selection of imports as well as all the good craft and locals available here. Occasional gems from Fantome, Cantillon, Haandbryggeriet and others as well as obscure stuff you won’t find anywhere else. Amazing bagels and cream cheese and all the specials great. Very fair pricing as well as discounts for multiple bottles. Must stop in Nola. | | SudsMcDuff (112), .....Manchester United.........., Texas | | September 21, 2011 This is the spot when in Nawlins and you are looking for bottles to take home!!! .. Dan is a cool guy and goes out of his way to help you find what you need ... selection is top notch and prices are legit .. i would love to have a place like near me.. . Dan’s the Man!! | | BarZigKin (29), San Antonio, Texas | | November 28, 2010 I wish this store was in San Antonio. Great, local neighborhood stop in the Garden District that’s laid back and full of fantastic finds. A varied selection of really nice stuff from Europe as well as all over the US. The owner, Dan, is an absolutely great guy and is really interested in bringing great beer to his store and encouraging a growing craft beer culture in NOLA. Talk with him for a bit and he may surprise you with a few items from the back room. CRAZY/SUPER BADASS service, tons of sick beers and a tremendous value. This is an absolute must-stop if you’re heading to New Orleans. | | Beerbuddha (13), New Orleans, Louisiana | | July 4, 2010 [ Updated July 17, 2010 ] Just got back from a visit to Steins. Picked up a Peche Mortel! Steins is a deli located on the corner of Jackson Ave and Magazine St. Dan is a very knowledgable guy and is very important in the beer scene here in New Orleans. They are starting to hold classes on the last Monday of the month at the deli which will awesome for NOLA. Very impressive selection of beers. Some beers I saw were(of the top of my head)Peche Mortel, Big Foot!, Bear Republic, Nice belgians in stock!, Old Rasputin, etc. He told me he will be getting in another 3 door fridge so I can only imagine what great beers he will be getting in. The only issues I have are: Can’t drink on premise and no prices listed for the beers. Other than that this place is a must go!!
| | Riotbeard (14), Birmingham, | | June 4, 2010 Haven’t gotten to eat here, so I will withold my judgment. Great beer selection for a tragicly bleh beer town. I got Dark Horizon V2, Fantome Pissentlet, Cantillon Kriek. I also bought a pannepot and borrowed a snifter and took advantage of New Orleans’ open container laws. I am moving about a block away from Stein’s in August, so woooh! | | phaleslu (241), Saint Louis, Missouri | | May 24, 2010 Stopped in here with a few buddies as we were killing time on a Friday afternoon in New Orleans for a bachelor party weekend. Hopped off the St. Charles streetcar line and walked 5 blocks south to Magazine Street, and just to the right was this gem. We walked in and Abita was having a free tasting for American Craft Beer Week. I sampled their Abbey Ale and walked away with a free glass. I couldn’t stock up here since I was flying back and didn’t have anything to pack a bunch of bottles in. But I bought a Nogne O Dark Horizon Second Edition (the reason I came), Mikeller Black, and Mikkeller 1000 IBU. I used these for a mini tasting back at the hotel before we went out that night. The guy running the place had a BeerAdvocate shirt, and as soon as he saw me looking around, came over to let me know he just got some stuff in that wasn’t on shelves and asked me what I was specifically looking for. This was a really cool market and deli with lots of great food on the shelves, and fresh meat in the counter. If I hadn’t just had lunch at Avenue Pub a couple hours earlier a sandwich here would have been inevitable. Give this place a shot if you’re in town- well worth the trip. | coyforce (8), Mississippi does not count - explanation | | March 1, 2010 Gotta love this jewish style deli with a great beer selection. Typical northeastern attitude...know what you want and be prepared to order! Love the ambiance - like an old worn down deli that has been here forever. This place has parking which is HUGE for new orleans. | | rcr484 (11), | | December 15, 2009 Be warned this is NOT a bar. As a deli goes, though, it’s top notch. The beer selection is pretty good, considering that factor. | | jfosu (11), | | December 14, 2009 This is a deli first market second. I must begin by saying the food is amazing. There isn’t a better deli in the city. Their cuts of meat are always fresh and their serving sizes are huge. As far as beer goes they have only bottles. They sell them individually or let you create a 4/6 pack. The pricing isn’t cheap (~3 a bottle for regular ABV beers) and you can’t drink on premises (they have some picnic tables just outside on the side walk though) but the selection is solid. They are particularly adept at getting sample of hard to find west coast breweries, which is a rarity in the south. If you’re looking for a meal first and some good beer second this is a great place to go. |
