| Gar4016 (10), , Iowa | | May 10, 2012 The selection is pretty good as far a bottles go in Minneapolis. I didn’t check out the cheese section, but it’s a separate room and smells pretty strong when the doors open(that means it’s likely pretty good). I’m not sure I found too much here that was really rare, but the staff was helpful and I would stop back in if in the area to check out what they have. P.S. They have a great little shop in the MSP airport that worth a stop by for a snack/wine/craft beer, likely my favorite part of the airport. | | TEJA (36), Stockholm, Sweden | | April 6, 2012 When I did my postdoc 1993-4 I lived 3 blocks away and this was my supplier of wine, cheese and beer. The personal was always friendly and they had wine lectures for a bargin. At that time the selection was one of the est in Minneapolis that I found. Add to that a great place for a European to find cheese that taste something. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | January 19, 2012 This place has a branch at MSP that has about half a dozen craft beers, including Flat Earth, Leftbridge and a bunch of Belgian stuff. Well worth a visit while you are transferring flights. | | DalzAle (12), Eden Prairie, Minnesota | | October 31, 2011 The cheese shop is the best part of this store, bar none. Beer selection is slightly above average, but always overpriced over other stores in Mpls(or metro). I stop in ocassionally when in the area, but don’t think it’s worth a stop for big beer lovers. Go to Zipps instead. | | BVery (227), Burnsville, Minnesota | | July 11, 2011 Great joint - good beer selection, and an awesome cheese shop. Yeah, they do the heck out of wine, too, but whatever :) | | mtjoseph (10), Murderapolis, Minnesota | | March 6, 2011 [ Updated April 19, 2011 ] This place is kinda gross. It feels like a wal-mart. If you are into wine, this place has a decent selection and great service, as you are hassled by employees for help as if you are in a corporate store. However, if you want beer, MUCH is left to be desired. Their organization for American craft makes no sense what so ever, the Belgian section is a joke and never changes, and most of their cooler space is for mass produced domestic stuff. However, they do have a good price on Black Label 12 packs. Of all the times I have shopped there, I don’t think I have ever been ever asked for help on the beer side. | | mattyb83 (14), Minnesota | | March 6, 2011 I feel like I’m walking into a chain grocery store when I step inside the liquor store area. Lots of wine, a good amount of liquor, and their beer selection is okay. Bought some beers that were way past their prime here, and they tend to charge a bit more than other places in the area. The Belgian section has all the usual suspects, but otherwise is pretty much a joke. They need to have a better selection of microbrewery large format bottles. Their cheese shop is the shit, though. I usually help myself to bread and olive oil while there picking up some solid coffee. | | nsquishee (16), Richfield, Minnesota | | January 5, 2010 Surdyk’s has a very good selection of just about everything. Their beer selection is pretty decent and I can always find something new that I haven’t tried before. The prices are definitely catered towards a more trendy crowd.
The cheese shop is pretty nice if you want to grab up some random gourmet cheeses. I did some price comparisons and though expensive, they don’t have too much of a markup. I snagged an awesome Smoked Blue Cheese from Rogue Brewery (OR) over the winter break and I’m glad I did. | | drpimento (120), La Crosse, Wisconsin | | October 3, 2009 Went there again (after a very long time) a couple of weeks ago with a couple of friends. One friend has been a San Francisco chef for some years and was amazed at the quality and selection available at Surdyk’s. We primarily went for the beer, but they had a good wine and liquor selection too. However, they didn’t have my two favorite bourbons. Beer selection was decent with a lot of single bottles and six pack of both local, regional, national, and international micro and macro beers on both sides of a decent sized aisle. Staff was pleasant and helpful. I’ll go again. | brosen561 (2), Minnesota does not count - explanation | | September 2, 2009 I’ve known this as more of a wine and spirits place than beer spot, but now I live in the cities and had to see the beer selection. First, though, stopped in the cheese shop. Absolutely amazing, way too expensive, but fun to go through. The selection of spirits and wine is great. However, I was happily surprised by the beer selection. Although they don’t have quite the import selection of Blue Max, they carry a similar array of domestic brands, my usual choices, like Victory, Founders, Flying Dog, Goose Island, and Ommegang, plus some usuals, like Summit. Staff is friendly and will truly try to help you out. I knock them a bit on service and overall because their website is horrible. Many of the beers they have in store are not listed on their website, which would be incredibly useful. |
