64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Rastacouere (606) Montreal, Quebec | November 27, 2012 A nice, relatively large brewpub on a vibrant portion of Alberta street. Large, calm, sun-bathed terrace, welcoming interior with a lot of natural light and a happy melting pot of different areas, a metal walled extension by the terrace, the bar area, a pool table area and closer to the entrance, a more traditional, wooden walled area with high ceilings. Since it’s Portland, there is a very relaxed atmosphere. It was perhaps a bit understaffed with a single barmaid having been rescued by a colleague after spending at least half an hour alone to serve this whole big place. The beers are okay, but under average around those parts. The IPA for one was very muddy and felt less traightforwardly hoppy, taking yeasty detours. Since Mash Tun’s location is not central, it’s not a palce I’d recommend unless you spend more than one week in the city, there are just so many alternatives. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 JoeinEscazú (268) San Jose, Costa Rica | July 8, 2011 I think one of the reasons I enjoyed this place was because I didn’t know it existed. Just stumbled across it while wandering around the Concordia neighborhood with wife and kid. Apparently not too many other RBers give it much thought either. Very workmanlike, drinkable ales on the sessionable side... and that suits me very well. Just a couple of pints and some darts. Didn’t try the food. A simple brewpub for locals, just doing its thang. Easy enough walk from Concordia Ale House, McMenamin’s Kenedy School, or Pine State Biscuits. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 lushawn (227) Massachusetts | May 23, 2010 Stopped in while GF did some shopping. beers were good. as i was out of town and had never heard of the place, the beers were better than expected. service was good. worth popping in if you are in the neighborhood. lot of wood inside, even though i was sitting next to two lesbians at the bar. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 NachlamSie (447) Tennessee | April 29, 2010 Here’s a small little brewpub we stumbled on during a walk down Alberta. It’s a cool little spot with sparse decor and concrete walls. They have a free jukebox with some pretty decent tunes in it, a pool table, and darts. We did not eat, just a had a pint which was satisfactory enough. Good stop if you’re in the area. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 trampdaddy (43) California | April 27, 2010 the beer was good we loved the live band playing irish music. the part of town was a little intimadating we road the bus their and it was getting dar would have liked to spened more time here
| 42 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 7/20 troopie (62) Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon | February 19, 2007 Cold draughty room in a former warehouse. Service was average, Whenever I ordered one of their beers, they weren’t pouring it. I got my third choice on the menu because they were out of the first two. I went back again, and it was the same thing. | 32 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 6/20 beerinmarch (118) Washington | November 10, 2006 I can’t say much about this place, the service was kinda bad, it was empty, they only had one of their own beers on tap (even after being open for a year), and the one beer on tap wasn’t that great. Their guest taps were nice, had a few good taps, but I went there to try their beer. I’ll go back next year if its still open and try again. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Oakes (612) Savusavu, Fiji Islands | August 13, 2006 Big open space with covered patio out back. A handful of house taps with a small selection of guest beers and bottles. Wide variety of sloppy sandwiches and other pub food from the kitchen though I could have done without the ghetto-ass plastic cheese. Laid back neighbourhood joint. The house beers are quite good, so this place should be on the list of anyone in PDX for more than a day. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 harlequinn (112) Tacoma, Washington | January 11, 2006 Mash Tun has a traditional menu of pub favorites from the "One Tun Burger", beer battered onion rings and an thoughtful array of sought after beers. With their "Mash Tun" brewery near completion, you can expect to sample the highly anticipated Alberta Pale Ale soon. Until then you can enjoy the tapped Dogfish Head IPA, Elysian E.S.B and Chimay. With patio seating, a pool table, a juke box and cold beer. I talked to the bartender tonight and he said the beer would be out in a couple of weeks, it has been in the fermenters since Christmas! |
