| Steve_0 (38), Denver, Colorado | | February 26, 2012 This place is awesome, I only wish it had opened sooner. Too bad I only got to enjoy it for a little while. The selection is awesome and is constantly updated by a giant screen above the bar. The glassware here is unreal, with a different piece for every style. If you are in Fort Collins, this place is a MUST! | | 3fourths (962), Boulder, Colorado | | February 25, 2012 "why doesn’t Boulder have something like this?"
"the television menus above the bar are great"
"but it takes me a while to decide what to drink"
"because I’ve had nearly everything"
"i’m going to try this small batch Odell beer"
"they’re out of it, guess not"
"okay how about just a saison dupont"
"or an orval, yeah a bottle of orval"
"the orval is skunked, the fuck?"
"it’s like a mix of 22 year old oblivious kids in the front half and 30 year old know it alls in the back raving about the latest oxidized hop malt release from Oskar Blues"
"why do they need 6 different amber ales on tap, and why offer the same 20 taps you can find at dozens of other places in town?"
\m/ | | Beaver (13), Fort Collins, Colorado | | January 17, 2012 The Mayor has a big hipster bar feel. 100 taps are nice and they get some cool beers rotating through. I think a place like Choice City gets better beers at much better prices though with only 38 or so taps. It feels like there is lots to try, but no real beer knowledge there.
The food is good. It’s a limited menu provided by a local cafe, so it’s mostly sandwiches and breakfast foods. It’s tasty and reasonable portions (not monstrous, which I like). | | craftbeerdesign (92), Alpharetta, Georgia | | November 27, 2011 [ Updated February 28, 2012 ] trendy craft beer focused bar in Fort Collins near CSU just below Old Town. lots of great craft on tap with a huge multi screen above the bar displaying the current offerings. seems to be a hipster type place. the bar staff seems to know there beer. I’ll be going back next time I’m in town simply because there aren’t too many other spots in town bar wise with as many choices. | FatCats (2), Colorado does not count - explanation | | August 3, 2011 I can understand that the ambiance of this place is hit or miss. It’s not the warmest decor I’ve ever seen, the floor-plan is not broken up, and it can get loud when the place is full--which they have said they’re working on--but at least it’s unique. It doesn’t feel like you’re sitting in an American cookie-cutter bar like Old-C’s or any number of chain-operated establishments. The service, I must admit, is somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes slow. They do know their beer though, for having an ever-changing 100 beer tap line. As for the beer, I love it. If you’re a linear drinker and are looking for the same thing every night, you might look elsewhere, but for me, to think the line will look considerably different in a few weeks is incredible. What is offered is a beautiful assortment of locals and imports. Taps include stuff from Equinox to Ommegang, Firestone Walker and Jolly Pumpkin to Mikkeller and Moortgat. The food is a little inconsistent with the quality and selection of beer that is offered but it’s delicious bar food none-the-less. As for value, these beers are difficult to get in many liquor stores, let alone on tap. Not to mention they’re better than the prices I’ve seen at Cafe Vino or Choice City. If you can deliver me a Duvel Single on tap I would fully expect to pay more for it than a Fat Tire, especially considering a four pack is $16 in a liquor store. Overall, the staff is educated and nice, the food is good, the beer is great and it’s a new local favorite for me. | | adnielsen (277), Fort Collins, Colorado | | August 1, 2011 I think notalush hit his assessment right on the dot. You walk and you think you’re walking into a bank circa 1980. Unfinished rock walls with the big wood beams over head accompanied by shit that could have been bought either in Ikea’s 1980 or 2011 catalog: space age chairs, tables, etc. While dealing with that, you have to deal with a bunch of douche bags that think they know everything about beer. I was hoping to taste the Crooked Stave Petit Sour again since I had an unfortunate experience the first time around, but they had already sold out of their two kegs. All 100 beers offered were displayed by an overhead projector on the wall above the taps. Since I couldn’t really see a TV all that well from my vantage point, I ended up reading the list front to back several hundred times looking for something unique. While they do have a few unique beers, I think their strength is bringing together tons of Colorado brews in one place (Asher, Crooked Stave, Pateros Creek, Equinox, etc). There were a few other taps for Firestone Walker, The Bruery, etc but those offerings weren’t too "rare" but still notable. They have a considerable collection of glassware and I would estimate that an average beer will run you about $6-7 for a 300mL glass. The staff seemed somewhat informed on the beers, though I did hear some premium bullshit out of their mouths. As for the clientèle that I alluded to before, it seemed compromised of hipsters and creepy guys that think they’re being ironic by sporting a child rapist mustache. My favorite scene of the night was a sorority girl ordering a La Folie and telling her friends how she loved the sourness. They tasted it and said it was nasty. The girl that ordered the beer promptly asked if she could get a Sunshine instead as she didn’t mean to get a La Folie. HA! My second favorite part of the experience was that they have started to expand their bottle list since lush visited. I am not shitting you, they had two bottled beers: FW Parabola and MIchelob Ultra! HAHAHAHA! If you can deal with the shitheads and the shitty atmosphere, it’s a pretty cool place with lots of rotating taps to taste lots of different stuff. I’ll be back. | | notalush (256), Denver, Colorado | | July 29, 2011 I did not much care for the environment here - the decor was a mix of mod furniture and lighting fixtures, gleaming white and light gray everywhere - imagine Barbarella meets Kubrick’s 2001 - very mod and pretentious - not comfortable at all - like an IKEA-furnished dorm room - when I walked in, I almost walked right back out - then I saw the tap list - 100 brews - an impressive selection of craft and imports (including a rare Mikkeller, Duvel Green and Saison Dupont) - beer menu was projected on a wall behind the bar (amplifying the scifi feel of the whole place) - beer prices were astronomical - sure, I had two double IPAs, but 7 bucks each? - no bottles when I was there, but they had a cooler at the far end of the bar, which leads me to believe they will have some soon - food menu seemed incongruous with the rest of the place - moderately priced sandwiches and burritos - food was decent, but I ordered an italian style sandwich and it was served with chips (wtf?) - servers were helpful, but simultaneously kind of distant and pretentious - very crowded and loud - loaded with what passes for hipsters in Fort Collins - the beer selection is great, but the environment will probably keep me from coming back. |
