I love the Petrol Station. They have the best selection of microbrews in town and offer a great selection of delicious bar food as well. Everyone recommends the burgers but to me their single best dish is the pulled pork sandwich. It’s amazing. They have a wide variety of craft beers to choose from and it’s always rotating. Seating inside can be hard to find but once you’re there, you stay for a while so it’s no big deal. Great happy hour specials and fantastic special events make this a weekly hangout for me.

One of my favorite places! The place itself is small, but great out door seating. Bartenders can be a bit rude but overall are nice and helpful. The burgers are the best in Houston in my opinion! Prices a very fair and selection is large and rotates frequently. Half pint available. I love this place!

Ambiance: Located in a very residential area. You’re driving down a road lined with houses and BAM, there it is, in what appears to be an old gas station (hence the name, I assume). Not much parking right out front, but there’s a large-ish parking lot directly across the street. Some outside seating and (I think) a wood-burning stove right out front, then you’re inside. Small-ish interior, and comfortably appointed, but not fancily: wooden seating, a nice slab of bar space, medium lighting. Very generous outdoor patio with a large fire/stove going and covered seating. If temps cooperate, it’s perfect. Service: Extremely friendly, enthusiastic about beer, and clearly knowledgeable. Selection: This listing shows 15 taps, but there were more like 30. I’ve only been the once, but there was a WIDE selection across all styles, from mostly (if not all) craft brewers. Food: Oustanding. I had the chorizo-laden mac & cheese. One co-worker had a giant reuben and the other had a burger the size of a dodgeball, topped with a fried egg. All of us were enthused. Fries were awesome. Value: Came down from DC, so prices were great compared to what I’m used to. About 6 bucks for a beer, food in the $10 range. Overall: What a cool place. Traveling to Houston on business, looked for something on the northern side of the city, and ratebeer showed this as the highest-rated place on the north/west side for bars. Was not disappointed.

I have mixed feelings about this place. While the atmosphere and ambiance are good, this is a place I only care to come to when I suspect the crowd will be small, say like on a Friday after a holiday when everyone else is out shopping. The food is quite good and the tap selection is very good with a good rotation among what is available. They are always bringing in stuff that is new to Houston and hard to get. Lots of excellent choices. My beef is that they want to hold events and draw big crowds, yet the small interior is not conducive to large crowds and they do not ensure fire code limits are adhered to. On top of that, they never seem to have enough bartenders to handle the events, thus, the wait can be quite long. Even on slower days the bartenders are not that attentive. I think the owner realizes he will have lots of people show up regardless of how poorly they are served as the situation is continuously repeated, never seeming to improve. Avoid their special events, or Friday and Saturday evening for that matter, unless you like to stand in lines waiting for long periods to get a beer. there are better alternatives in Houston, in my opinion.

Can I just say that I love this place and Mora 2000, as I understand your want for TX beer, many of the local Houston places do focus on that and only Texas beer so I find it refreshing that we can get some excellent choices at The petrol Station.

Stopped by during a recent trip to Houston. While the tap selection was very good, I was disappointed by the lack of Texas beers. Of the 25 or so beers on tap during my visit, only three were from Texas (one from 512 and two from Karbach). I was hoping to see some Ranger Creek, No Label, Live Oak or Independence, Austin Beer Works. From the availability list on RateBeer it looks like other Texas beers have been present in the past, so maybe this was a one time thing. But I was just hoping to see the bar focusing on Texas taps, not national taps that I can get in Dallas. Still, a very nice place with helpful service, my only gripe is the lack of Texas taps. I also liked that they sold half pints of all of their beers.

Enjoy stopping by from time to time. They keep their supply well stocked and circulate new beers all the time so its always changing whats on tap!

Great selection and knowledgeable staff!! One tip: when you order food, make sure you substitute your chips for fries!

One of the best beer bars in town. Now with a larger tap selection they consistently have a different selection of amazing beers. Several rare beers tapped here monthly and host good events. The food is phenomenal and is always worth the wait. Have to stop here while in town, the only bar smack in the middle of a neighborhood.

Selection is excellent. This is a place to enjoy conversation with a date or fellow patrons. The atmosphere is very friendly. This is a hipster place but they could use some waitstaff to attend to outside patrons that don’t want to leave their stuff unattended while ordering food or beverages. They have a limited food menu but are very creative in their selection. It tends to be high calorie but reasonable in price for the quantity. I feel very comfortable here. No pressure. They need more fans for cooling for the patios. It gets hot in the summer. I’m sure they will need more heating in the winter also but you always feel warmer after a glass of ale.
