A really tiny bar which can get uncomfortable from time to time, but the beer range is great and this place is well worth visiting.

Great little pub! The staff was excited to talk about beer and make suggestions. Not the widest selection but quite impressive especially considering the size of the place. Next time I’m in London, this will be my first stop.

Small place and too small to accomodate the many people there. Mainly foreign beers available and not as many locals as me (a foreigner) had hoped to find, but I can see why locals would find this place interesting, but as a foreigner I would go elsewhere.

St Patricks Day, early evening, market closed. Two stouts on draught, Veltins German Pilsner and a German Weiss on tap, four more taps, a Kriek, an American beer, Duchesse de Bourgogne and one I can’t remember, sorry. Large selection of bottled beers also, very large for the UK. Small, with a slightly larger patio, enough room for 12, maybe 16 inside, 20 plus outside. It is too close to the fish stall at the market, every so often that wet fish odour wafts in and ruins your beer aroma completely. My first round was expensive, but the beers were all fine, there was a communication problem with my second round. I watched in amazement as the young barmaid poured the draught Duchesse de Bourgogne into a pint sleeve glass (at £6.00 a pint). I got it transfered into two smaller glasses, but it just doesn’t taste the same if it is not in it’s proper glass and the aroma is of wet fish!

Very small and not cosey beerplace. Average service but it was crowded. A few casks and some interresting tabs and a huge bottle collection.

Nice little place with large outdoor seating. 4 handpulls on with a good selection of bottles.

I had a problem finding this pub. When I finally found it on a Sunday morning it was closed. It opened fortunately soon. The room is not something to brag about, but people who are there really care about the beer. Good beer selection.

The Rake is proof that good things come in small packages. Located in Borough Market, it’s just up the street from Market Porter, and must be included in any Southwark pub crawl. The room inside is very small with a larger outdoor patio off the side. There is an interesting ’wall of fame’ next to the bar where many visiting brewers have left signed messages. The draft selection was a bit limited (3 casks and 5 regular), but impressive. Living in San Diego, I was surprised to see Coronado B.C.’s Golden Ale on tap. There were 2 De Molen beers on tap as well. There is also a great bottle selection in fridges behind the bar. Overall, The Rake is one of the top 5-10 specialty beer bars in London with a younger crowd oriented towards craft beer. Recommended.
