| EdKing (69), London, England | | December 31, 2011 Visited the new location on pub crawl care of Tim Maloney, which is bigger although undecorated when I visited. Great line up of beers, easy to find and they don’t mess about with big heads when they serve you, making sure it’s up to the pint line. Sure this is going to be great, and when I was there they had a really nice food buffet on. 1000 yen for a pint which is pretty good in Japan. I’m not a metaller though so as far as the music’s concerned it ain’t my bag. However, beer quality as served is best I’ve ever had in Japan! | | Theis (91), Frederiksberg, Denmark | | September 17, 2010 What a fantastic, but small place. A one room apartment converted into a bar. Great selection, great service, fantastic energy. Metal music and good beer !!! | | prestonshute (12), Georgia | | March 25, 2010 San Diego style IPA’s while listening to 80s metal is the theme of this prize. Located just a 5 minute walk north of Yokohama Station, you’ll be able to hide out and drink the hoppiest beers available in Japan. Service is great. The owner is very friendly, welcoming, and will let you play whatever music you’d like of his collection. I’d give it a 100, but I know that’s because of personal reasons. | | Bier brauen (11), Bremerton, Washington | | December 19, 2009 The best beer bar in Ylkohama, no exceptions. Mr. Koichi is a wonderful host. The beers are selected by Koichi, and he appreciates craft beer. Here’s to continued sucess to the Thrash Zone! | | chuwy (19), , Japan | | March 11, 2009 [ Updated July 24, 2011 ] Great gem of a place in Yokohama. Not far from the station, though can be hard to find, the first time. Tim E’s directions will get you there. Around 9 taps, including Crossover, a new beer brewedd by Yokohama brewery, especially for Thrash zone. kinda cream ale (?) West Coast IPa, it’s a hoppy monster! Great crowd there. seats about 10 to 15 at a squeeze. always has a few locals in. Everyone is very friendly. One of the friendliest bars I know of. Suprisingly, I don’t hear much Thrash Metal when I go there. Story goes it was created as a way to promote Nagahama ale, discovered by the owner, Koichi san whilst fishing out on a lake near there. They now have a nice range of Japanese craft beers plus one or two American hop monsters. Occasionally dry hopping beers to make them even better and more interesting. One of my favourite bars. Period. Better than Cheers! Open almost till last train (then there’s always the green sheep, as a last resort). Watch your last train, or you may end up | | KyotoLefty (286), Kyoto, Japan | | February 21, 2009 [ Updated May 17, 2009 ] Small, personal place near Yokohama station. Great beers on tap. The master is a very nice guy who speaks English. Other customers were friendly too. Good mix of American and Japanese micros on tap. | Qr3Q (1), , Japan does not count - explanation | | February 20, 2009 This place is becoming a weekly stop. I miss my California brews and Thrash is slowly becoming home away from home. The Japan Micros on tap are always tasty. Plan to go by tonight. | | jonno (92), , Japan | | August 15, 2008 [ Updated June 19, 2011 ] A great little place in Yokohama. The beer range is not extensive, but what they do have is generally of very high quality. Nice music selection (if it’s your thing) and the bar owner (Koichi) is a great guy, who really enjoys his job. Definitely worth a visit in Yokohama...see you there! | buzzoven (4), , Japan does not count - explanation | | May 4, 2008 Hands down, my favorite stop for a beer. The bartender is fun to talk to, the music selection is excellent, the decor is nice...with a vision ripped right from the average metalhead’s bedroom in the 80’s, and the beer selection is usually spot on...Showcasing Japanese craft beers and a growing selection of imported bottles. Thrash Zone is the kind of rare place that has a metal heart but a homey vibe. Great for a local chat with a buddy or a solo trip to sample some fresh beer and smoked foods. The cheese plate comes recommended as does the Minoh Stout. ALE AWAITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Marc (13), Yokosuka, Japan | | December 9, 2007 [ Updated January 26, 2008 ] Smallish (in the way that most Japanese Places are) probably fitting 20 or so. Could be a bit of a challenge to find for some folks, follow TimE’s directions and take a peek at the map on the web site and you should be fine. Inside is very well lit with minimalist decor’. Clean yet inviting the walls are lined with heavy metal albums from the 80’s. Like said earlier, the music is mostly metal (I have yet to hear any punk) played at a very reasonable level. 7 taps with 2 hand pumps with a decent variety of Japanese micros and an attentive staff of one make this place a soon to be regular stop when in Yokohama for me. |
