26 reviews for Troy Pub and Brewery (Brown Brewing)
basewars (8), Albany, New York does not count - explanation | | September 29, 2009 Kinda of a rustic brew pub on the river front. The bar area is fairly small, but there are plenty of tables for the restaurant and there is a patio. They have a fair selection of beers. Generally pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Still, a fun place to go and worth it if nearby. | scubasteev (7), Albany , New York does not count - explanation | | September 27, 2009 Great selection of brewed beer. My favorite is the oatmeal stout. The location is quite ideal being right on the Hudson River. You can have dinner, drink plenty of good beer and then see a show at Rev Hall which is right next door! What more could you ask for? | | mouse725 (14), Albany, New York | | April 4, 2009 My favourite place to go in the Tri-City area. Good beers, good food, good times had by all. Must tries: Russian Imperal stout, Tomhannock Pilsener. Avoid: that awful fruit beer... cherry? raspberry? something cough-syrupy. ESB also worth a try. Great place to stop for a pint and hot pretzel. And if you like margaritas or blue corn muffins, hit up Jose Malones a few doors away! | | hophead75 (83), Boonton, New Jersey | | February 13, 2009 Went to the brewpub on New Years day- Good riverfront location with exposed brick and lots of wood- has a nice, cozy and rustic feel. There were probably around 11-12 of their own beers on tap- all were pretty well made with the RIS, Pils, and Rauch being the best of the bunch when I was there. Food was decent and the bartenders were pretty friendly. Since I seem to be in Albany at least once a year I’d return.
| | beastiefan2k (108), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | July 13, 2008 came here on a lazy sunday afternoon. Nice large brewpub with brick and an outside area. In an old industrial park on the river. Nice selection, had 9 different beers on. The pils is the best, the others were fine but nothing to write home about but no problem beers. The menu was pretty large and rather diverse for a brewpub. Ate with vegetarians and they had plenty to choose from. Note: if you want a growler bring you own to fill up, they only sell flip tops for 22 bucks. I would return.
| | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | January 2, 2008 We arrived there around opening time on a saturday to have lunch. Troy does not look like the most appealing town I must say despite overlooking the Hudson. The beers ranged from mediocre to good with most being closer to the first category. Friendly enough service despite one of our bunch speaking most approximative English. The usual rather greasy pub fare. To sum it all, a large, rather typical spacey american brewpub. | popkow (4), New York, New York does not count - explanation | | November 11, 2007 If the Oatmeal Stout ever makes it back on tap get it because it is fabulous. | Ebbinghaus (1), does not count - explanation | | August 17, 2007 Avoid this place like the plague!! My group and I have been coming here after work on Fridays (about once a month) for the last 5 years. The place no longer is a brewpub, but the beer is still good. However, the management has changed hands and the officious "Pub Lady" (PL) has become a real disincentive.
This Friday (Aug 17, 2007), about 12 of us showed up beginning at 4:15. We sat on the deck overlooking the Hudson and ordered beer, wine, and munchies The PL came by and told us that our group would have to leave as we were not ordering dinners. Well, about half of our group intended to order dinners, the other half did not. But it was 5:15, a bit early for dinner (unless you are the type you goes for the "senior rate" at Denny’s™). We told her that we intended to order about 7 or 8 dinners. She became very rude to the group. Our leader (i.e., me) stood up and asked her to apologize saying that we had been coming here for many years and were not used to being treated this one. She became red-in-the-face mad and incoherent. (Accused me of being an "obscenity" whatever she meant by that I have no idea.) We paid the bill (leaving a nice tip for the waitress who was very nice), $120+, and left for Ryan’s Wake -- two doors down and also with a nice view of the Hudson. | | linc33 (29), Albany, New York | | August 11, 2007 Well air-conditioned (summer), decent selection of beer, and it was quality. Was highly surprised by the pilsener - actually had flavour! Waitress was friendly, and everything they had on tap they had in bottles, 12 or 22oz. Revolution Hall is also operated by the same people, so they have brew on tap in there too. Good local music venue - surprised no one else mentioned it. |
