Brown’s is great. I love most of their beers, and they usually have 7-8 beers on tap. The ambiance is fantastic (although, at times, incredibly loud) and the food is phenomenal. That said, we’ve gone there a few times and they’ve been out of many of their beers, and when it’s really busy (which it is at all of the predictable times: Thursday-Sat night), the service drops off tremendously. Given this, I had to give them a 6 for service, but other than that, it’s a great place to go in Troy!

One of the few success stories of Troy. It’s inside what appears to be an old factory shell in a row of older commercial brick buildings. A wonderful air about it. When the college up the hill, RPI, has something big the staff is at times overwhelmed so if it’s a big weekend expect a longer conversation. It’s a comfortable place so when it happens it’s never bothered us. Decently built brews and good food. An enjoyable experience.

Nice place, in not the greatest part of town. Comfortable, welcoming interior with nice wait-staff and a nice selection of Brown’s beers.

I stopped in during a recent business trip to Albany. I usually visit the Albany Pump House when I am in Albany, and didn’t realize this place is less than ten minutes away until recently. The place has a lot of old wood and has that old pubby feel to it, which I like. There were eight beers on tap when I stopped in and I picked up a growler of the Maple Nut Brown Ale. The staff were friendly and helpful and happy to talk beer. I guess my only complaint is the cost of the initial growler fill, which was $35 for a 2 litre swingtop + beer. Had I known, I would have taken ten minutes and parked my ass at the bar and drank my pint there. I did not eat when I was there, and will update this review when I have done so. I will return, growler in hand, for my refill!

One of my all time favorite places. When I lived in Clifton Park NY, Id drive down to Troy and go to Browns on a regular basis. I love the atmosphere, although you’d better go early, because it can get crowded. They brew the beer right there at the restaurant, and Ive never had a bad pint. They only serve their own beer, which is fine because they normally have 8-10 on tap and a good variety. The food is awesome, great burgers, wings, really everything is good. It’s right on the Hudson River, and whenever I go back to the Northeast, this is definitely on my list to visit.

Nice brewpub/restaurant in downtown Troy NY. The wife and I were in town for a show at the music hall and thought we’d check the place out. Atmosphere is typical in town, old building, exposed brick, wood, ductwork, yada, yada. Most brewpubs in old buildings look pretty much the same. There is a deck overlooking the Hudson River which would be nice in the summer. Food was pretty good, typical pub food. I had a Reuben sandwich that was excellent. Prices were about the same I’ve seen everywhere. Beer was pretty good, although my wife had an IPA that was quite tame. I had a porter and a stout that were decent. If I’m in Troy again, I’ll go back.

The ambiance is outstanding - a very cozy brewpub, nice deck overlooking the river, nice quieter area to enjoy dinner upstairs. The service is very good, waitstaff is friendly and attentive, bartenders work quickly. The selection is just Brown’s beer which are fairly solid but nothing special. But on any given night, they have a fairly wide selection of brews to choose from. The food is very good. Value-wise, the beers are pretty cheap ($4 or so a pint) and the food is average. Overall, a real gem along the river, and bonus points for Revolution Hall too.

Kinda of a rustic brew pub on the river front. The bar area is fairly small, but there are plenty of tables for the restaurant and there is a patio. They have a fair selection of beers. Generally pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Still, a fun place to go and worth it if nearby.

Great selection of brewed beer. My favorite is the oatmeal stout. The location is quite ideal being right on the Hudson River. You can have dinner, drink plenty of good beer and then see a show at Rev Hall which is right next door! What more could you ask for?

My favourite place to go in the Tri-City area. Good beers, good food, good times had by all. Must tries: Russian Imperal stout, Tomhannock Pilsener. Avoid: that awful fruit beer... cherry? raspberry? something cough-syrupy. ESB also worth a try. Great place to stop for a pint and hot pretzel. And if you like margaritas or blue corn muffins, hit up Jose Malones a few doors away!
