Two Roads Brewing Company

Really nicely set-up place not too far from New Haven. When you arrive, it's a bit of a maze to get up to the tasting room. Lots of seating around the bar, plus a few more tables. 4 oz. tasters of all beers available for $2-3, plus they'll let you do sips. Service was friendly but a bit slow. The goses were the highlights by far. Definitely worth a visit.

This is right off I-84 in Stratford, CT and very easy to get to. I visited it by accident because I was in the area and staying at a Quality Suite Hotel about 2 blocks down the road. And when I got there it was right at last call time. But I got a sense of things. A nice bar/tasting room with a wide array of Two Roads beers to choose from including some that are brewery-only. The gift shop is nice and has a good selection of beer and other collectibles. Even though they were beyond "last call" when I got there, the waitress let me try a sample of a brewery-only Belgian style Dubbel. I hoped I might be able to try some of the contract brews they do such as Evil Twin or Lawson’s Sip ’o Sunshine but no - not at the brewery. Still, I think it is worth the visit and I would like to get back there again when I have more time to absorb everything it has to offer.

Visited 04-NOV-2016 with Morten G. Bought tickets for the tour friday 18:30 in advance - only 5$ a ticket. We got there early in time for at beer before the tour. Nice easy drinking saison. Ordered a beer in plastic cup to consume during the tour where we were also served five different beers from the year-around series. The Two Roads beers are well-made but not mind blowing. It is a huge brewery. Lots of tanks. Frank walked us through the tour even though i happened that we were the only two guests on the tour. That gave us a chance to throw question after question:-) The pub itself was not filled though a lot of people were there. We took another beer after the tour and that one was on the brewery:-) Go there for the tour and the ambience of the bar.

Two Roads is a very nice looking and well done brewery. It’s large from a brewing standpoint...but also the visitor space is quite large (impressive from outside too). This is an old brick manufacturing plant (there are still some examples of old machines...as well as pictures on the walls). The tap room is very large on the 2nd floor...overlooking the brewing area. There are lots of great historical photos of the area (nearby Sikorsky for instance)...a very large bar that does flights, pints, and growlers...and then a 2nd area for pints and growlers only. I visited on a very busy Friday evening and the place was pretty much slammed...still and all the service was decent given the crowd size. Unfortunately I didn’t get to do what I most enjoy at breweries (besides drink beer of course!)...and that’s talk to the staff and management about the place...but too busy for that...I’ll have to stop by at a slower time. All the large windows looking down on the brewery are a great touch and several of the tanks are decorated with pictures. There is a good size brewery store and food trucks outside (you can bring food into the tap room). As for the beers...a large number were available...split into two groups on different menu boards..."regulars" & "seasonals". I’ve had their beer before in bottles...and was never really impressed...so I was hoping I’d find better beers at the brewery...well there are seasonal...but still...nothing blew me away...or even encouraged a growler fill. I understand they are doing a lot of both contract brewing as well as supporting gypsy brewers...so between those endeavors...the large taproom scene...and beer gear sales...perhaps they are making enough to offset the mostly average beer (some exceptions are a bit better). My score is based a lot more on the fun of visiting this place than how good their beers are. It’s also nice that the brewery is literally 2 blocks from an I95 exit with easy on/off. I promised myself I’d come back at a less busy time and give the place another chance...a closer look...and talk to people who work there. It’s possible with the crowd that night I missed some of the best they have to offer.

Service: Le service se fait au bar qui ets au centre de la pièce. Sympathique et présentation des bières. Sélection: 9 bières maisons en fût lors de notre passage. Possibilité d’acheter des bières pour apporter en bouteille ou en canette à la boutique. Nourriture: Des camions de bouffe de rue se relais à chaque jour. Lors de notre passage c’était un camion de patates farcies. (260e rating d’établissement).

This was a fun Saturday afternoon stop. Its a large brewery with a spacious tap room on the second floor that overlooks the brewery. A good number of taps and reasonably priced tasters, but the beers themselves I found pretty average. They don’t serve food but there was a food truck outside when I was there.

Big bar, well laid out and very nicely decorated. Being a Sikorsky employee for 28 years I appreciated all the Igor and aircraft pictures. Great atmosphere inside and out. Nice selection of just their’s, though they didn’t have Igor’s Dream. I’d definitely recommend the Road 2 Ruin.

How have I not heard of this place before? It’s huge and they make a lot of beer. It’s probably because most of the beer they make is contract beer. I guess they’re the ones making some of the Evil Twin beer. The facility itself is pretty cool. The upstairs area is where you’ll find the tasting area which is on a balcony of sorts that overlooks the brewery. They’ve got ten taps going (not five as listed, I’ll fix it after I submit this rating) which include two flights: one regular lineup and one seasonal. The IPA was decent, most of the beers were drinkable, and there was a crummy imperial bourbon barrel aged malt liquor of sorts. The name of that beer alone makes it worth trying. Conntucky Lightning.

A couple of interesting details that I noticed:

-A brewery this size and it’s kind of messy in the brewing area. Interesting. Not saying it’s dirty, just that there were bags of grain lying all over the place.
-The bathroom is unisex, and not single occupancy. Not necessarily a bad thing but it’s something you need to be aware of if you’re a total prude or extremely bashful.
-They have a cool trailer outside that they serve beer from in the little beer garden area.
-There were some beer nerds doing a bottle share in one of the offices. Didn’t look in to see what they had.

Maybe it was the contrast of the Southport Brewing locations that made this place seem so cool but I think this was the best brewery that day.

I got a souvenir. It was the Conntucky Lightning t-shirt.

For once I was driving home to ri without wife and dogs so could detour for a beer stop. Huge production brewery right off highway. But cool tasting area and very friendly staff. 9 beers on tap when I was there and pretty good. Meatball cart outside was delicious. Rockin classic rock and pretty fun time.

9 beers total on tap when I went, the 5 regulars and 4 seasonals. Samples of everything were available at $2 apiece. Be mindful that this is a very large production brewery. Lots and lots of space, big brewing equipment, etc. With that being said, the tasting room upstairs is actually pretty cozy. It doesn’t *feel* like you’re at a huge brewery, that’s for sure. No food, but you can order in or grab something from a food truck downstairs. Definitely worth stoping in if you’re passing through.
