| jonno (92), , Japan | | January 27, 2012 Swanky and wanky. A bit dilapidated now. Showing it’s age - needs a remodel. Very much a wanna be upscale restuarant with pretty goods beers as a side venture. Decor is like an upscale family restuarant. All the fixtures are exposed, but comes off looking cheap rather than chic. Located on Tennoz Isle - kind of like what you would expect Tokyo to look like in 2012 had you envisioned it in the 80s, before the bubble burst. | | EdKing (69), London, England | | January 17, 2012 Fantastic canal side brewpub and restaurant, appealing to a swankier clientele. The place is huge by Japanese standards and has a bar with stools near the front next to brewhouse, and then a very long spacious restaurant further through, with an area floating on the canal. I had the beer tasters which were pretty good followed by the India Pale Ale and Dark Ale which were both excellent. Just be prepared to pay for it as this is high end. However, for me it was worth the money. | | KyotoLefty (286), Kyoto, Japan | | July 24, 2008 [ Updated January 24, 2012 ] Nice atmosphere, on a canal in Tokyo. Lots of fancily-dressed rich Tokyo ladies out for a relaxing and pricey lunch. Food is good, maybe a bit overpriced. Hamburgers are great. Beers are now much better than when we went in 2008. Now I would say it is worth making the trip here, especially if you can go to the ¥500 a pint happy hour on Weekdays from 5 pm. I was impressed at how much they have improved.
| | Capa (172), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | May 31, 2008 Very modern feel to the interior with plenty of exposed architecture. Classy dress and I thought I was going to be turned away for wearing jeans and a polo shirt but they let me in anyway. Quick, attentive service. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t sit at the bar for lunch, but the dinning room wasn’t bad, actually. Excellent food. I had a prosciutto and tomato sandwich which paired nice with their beers. I had the beer sampler that consisted of three beers with two servings of the amber. I really enjoyed this place but sadly the beer was the one downer as they were a bit dull and boring. O, well. I’ll come back but more for the food and not the beer (I’ll also dress a bunch nicer, ha). | | Marc (13), Yokosuka, Japan | | March 18, 2007 Interesting blend of brewpub and restaurant. Very chic and modern with a contemporary menu. Was very impressed with the food (with the notable exception of the sashimi) and the beer was decent.
The wait staff was not incredibly knowledgeable about the beer its self but made up for it in attentiveness and the fact that they all spoke decent English.
Pricing/food quality/portion size was decent with most entre’s coming in around 2000 yen and appetizers at 900-1600.
If in the area definitely check this place out. | IslandHaole (5), Yokosuka-Shi, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan does not count - explanation | | November 6, 2005 Tim, Chad and I visited this place on a sunny afternoon to kick off RB-JAG. A beautiful day and an equally impressive facility. Beers were pretty good, their IPA was very good! The food was delicious too. I had the Chicken/Goat Cheese/Tomato quesadillas, Tim had the Jambalaya and Chad a Pita Sandwich. We all enjoyed the meals. This and Popeye’s are the places to visit when you go to Tokyo | orimo (1), tokyo, Japan does not count - explanation | | October 11, 2005 I do love this place!
their beer’s absolutely nice.
and, I think dishes are so good too.
but little expensive. | | TimE (189), Tokyo, Japan | | October 11, 2005 [ Updated March 12, 2010 ] Definitely one of the nicest beer drinking places on this planet. Located in a warehouse district on a lone street that is house in a beautiful modern building with an huge deck that floats on top of the water to relax and enjoy your beers. Infection has been a problem with them for a few years. At least the beer is consistent.... consistently hit or miss. Sampler is a good place to start. Cask is available. Reservations are essential. We stopped by there on a recent Monday night and had to sit at the back room at the bar as the restaurant and patio were full. David Chiddo is connected to this place and he has one of the best reps as a chef in town. Food is second to none (and you pay second to none prices too!).
Update: Three years on and beer is gone from hit or miss, to just miss. I don’t think they care about serving good beer. Can recommend this place only for atmosphere and food.
Update again: Beer is still a miss. The brewery has apparently bought itself out from the restaurant, so hopefully this will lead to better beer. Infection is still the issue. |
