This was my mid drive stop for dinner between middle of no where Inidiana and Indianapolis airport hotel location. Large open area, a few bars and a chill looking patio. I sat at the first bar once you walk in. Service was okay. Bartender bro kept dancing like a Nancy And that made me feel bad for him. I had three beers which ranged from gross to meh. Had a bratwurst sandwich which was easily the height of my visit. Grabbed a four pack for the aforementioned hotel and a sticker for my beer fridge.
Recently underwent a much needed expansion with much more seating. Also a better selection of their beers - usually have at least a couple specialties along with their regulars. Parking to the side but fills up quick - quite a bit of street parking and not much in the area, but still may be a challenge Friday and Saturday nights. Food not bad.
Updated review: I have been here quite a few times since I have lived here over the past couple years. The quality of the food and service has dipped considerably over the years. Still very busy and often hard to get a table. They have added a few additional taps serving seasonal and specialty beers but this hardly makes up for the other faults. Frankly, I would avoid this place and go to the Upland production brewery if you want to try their beers.
Came in for a sour release and stayed to eat lunch. Theyíre expanding this location so a little construction going on at the time. But what they have already is nice. Beautiful building with an outdoor patio that has plants and hop vines growing. Very friendly staff, food was delicious, decent draft selection. Iíll definitely be back.
(Visited 05/2014): Uplandís brewpub in Bloomington is located on 11th Street not too far from Indiana University. Parking is available in a lot as well as along the street next to the building.
The exterior of the large brick building has hop vines growing on it. Inside, the door opens to a host stand. Table seating is in nearly the whole space, with a bar in the rear. High ceilings with fans, and burnt sienna colored walls. Brewing equipment is visible through large windows in the back, and there is a board listing the beers on tap. There is also a separate building housing their barrels, and a patio in the rear.
The beer selection consists of 10 draughts. On my visit that included standards like Firefly, Wheat and Bad Elmer along with seasonals like Breakfast Berliner Weisse, Maibock and Vinyl Tap. The beers are decent for the most part, with the Sour beers being standout. A sampler is available.
Service during the Secret Barrel Society tour and during dinner was good. The tour was informative and provided many samples straight from the barrels, and our server at dinner was attentive and friendly.
Food at Upland is pretty good. My macaroni and cheese was enjoyable.
Stopped in for dinner and a few beers on a Saturday night. We had to wait about 30 minutes, so gave me chance to try a couple of their beers. We got a table and I had a sample of a few of their other beers. All were solid offerings. Food was good as well as the service. Our waitress had the beers memorized and knew what to say. Well worth the visit.
This place is full of local artwork and various banners from GABF and other accolades; this place is TIGHT in regards to seating, borderline uncomfortable. Service was as fast as they could be, and seemed knowledgeable when answering questions. Selection consisted of their beers, and a special version of Ard Ri on firkin (vanilla something or other). Food was pretty much awesome; I had some turkey guacamole every veggie known to man sandwich, my wife had a cheese plate with charcuterie- the cheese chunks were HUGE, and two words- duck. bacon. Another friend had fish and chips, also delicious and even my sonís mac and cheese looked tended to with the utmost care. Meals were fairly priced according to quality, but I think the cheese/charcuterie plate was an excellent value. The beer sampler was 8.50, and all eight pours were 4 oz. A pretty awesome place, with the minor complaints of space and perhaps some guest taps with in state breweries. Worth many returns.
Went there on way to Louisville and wanted to check them out.
Cool little place. Nice outdoor patio and nice indoor area to dine at. Much bigger operation than what I thought it would be. Good vibe in the place. Older crowd inside the place, really different than what I got in Munster.
Good service from the bartender as me and my GF sat at the bar. Very talkitive and one of the better places we got service in.
Beers were decent. Had their Triple and it was awful. the brown ale and Bad Elmer were quite good. Smallish tap list though
Food was good. Had the bison burger and also had the loaded chips. Oops!! Been in Australia too long and thought chips were fries. Loaded potato chips, still quite good.
Still had some of their sours available when I was there. Good to see and the bartender was honest enough to say not to bother as they were not the good ones. Big plus!!
Nice brewpub in Bloomington. They didnít have any of their sours in at the time, but they had a solid selection of beer (both bottle and draft), and the ambiance was good (although it was a little tight and crowded). Service and food were both good, and the value was great (theyíve got some excellent specials)! A fun spot thatís definitely worth a visit!
