Interesting place. Was there for the festival on May 12th, 2012. Nice setup with picnic tables outside and more tables inside. Staff was very pleasant. I got to talk to the head brewer too, he was very helpful and knowledgeable. The beers were quite tasty, especially the spruce ale, which was my favorite. I’m not rating the food, because even though I was able to eat, they had various BBQ joints from in town serving food for this event. Smoki-O’s was quite tasty though, as usual! I love that place! Prices for beer were ok. I’d like to go again, and try some more of their beers. I can tell you the zwickel is great stuff because they served it at another place in town that I’ve been to before.

I managed to get here a few times last summer, and the place has me totally beguiled. The main two reasons: (1) a heroically large and diverse selection of the house-made beers, and (2) most of the beers really excel. Besides the oddities they are making some superb lagers of real character, like the Zwickel. Each order was a struggle for me between another half-liter of that or something new. Something new usually lost. Choice nibbles and sturdy German fest-style tables outside were the proverbial icings on the cake.

February 2012. Visited mid afternoon on a brisk Friday. There was just a small crowd This space is neat and unique, clearly an old garage converted for the purpose, with the brewery behind the roll up doors and a nice dining area and bar off to the side. Furnished with cool old reclaimed tables and such, the pub is warm and inviting. The staff was quick to offer words on the dizzying array of house beers available and a free sample or two. Each beer is served in the appropriate glassware -- or in the case of the zwickel, in an authentic German stieinkrug. The beers were a bit hit and miss, but mostly hits. They do have a limited selection of small foot plates, but we didn’t try anything. Ultimately, think this is a great neighborhood watering spot and a great addition to a STL brewery scene that’s quickly becoming world-class. Brewery #572.

The brewery looks nice from the outside and the main area is interesting. The service was not that great and seemed disinterested. The beer is okay to good, but nothing spectacular or must try.

Their 1 year anniversary Wolpertinger party was my first visit to the shiny stainless-steel microbrewery, which fills the inside of a huge refurbished old brick garage or firehouse, along with a classy little tap-room restaurant serving all their beers (of course) plus predictable Germanic gastro-pub type food. Servers and bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable. Cool atmosphere, artwork, merchandise section, clean bathrooms, an all-around cool place. I don’t live downtown, so it’s off my beaten path, but I’ll definitely make it a destination again. In the meantime, I’ll keep sampling the Urban Chestnut taps around town, and any day now, store-bought bottles!

newer looking place on the outskirts of downtown, production brewery is next door, pretty big one at that... brick minimalist building, local artwork dons the walls, the Urban Chestnut colors, logo and tap handles are very cool... nice selection of 13 drafts, mostly German styles so not really my thing but well crafted... the bar tenders were nice and knowledgable... worth trying out

Small little taproom adjacent to the brewery offering sausage and cheese platters, flatbread, pretzels and brats. 11 beers on tap, really friendly beer knowledgeable staff. Interesting beer menu offering classic styles as well as their modern riffs on the styles.

must’ve had upwards of 13 or 14 diff urban chestnut beers on tap. unfiltered pilsners, smoked, hefeweizen, bavarian ipa, session ipa, zwickel, all kinds of neat stuff. fast service. laid back atmosphere. old brick walls. some dude playing a guitar, though it wasn’t distracting. dart board in back. awesome beer, had a great time. excited to return. happy to hear they are bottling. bunch a well made, to style, relatively low abv beers. a breath of fresh air.

LOVE This place! as some of the previous raters say, your not going to find any big beers here-mostly german and american session brews. Most of their beer is fantastic-i cant complain with this place. they have a couple of VERY attractive watresses (as of March 2011) that were very friendly and conversational. I really dig this place-could be my favorate small brewery in STL!

This brewpub is clean, has plenty of seating, and is reasonably priced. For a Saturday afternoon, they were fairly busy but not packed, which gave the place a nice feel. Not a bad brew on tap. The food looked good, but we didn’t have any entrees. I’ll be going back on my next trip to St. Louis!
