| BREWMUSKCLES (74), New Jersey | | May 21, 2012 a lot of wood in a corner bar of about moderate size for NYC, ,maybe 30’ X 30’. taps along the far wall and full bar with some bottles. Packed for the 9th ave food festival. Finding it’s way into the mix there are some small tables and such. Median in most ways. clean glasses. Tourists and new arrivals. | hivemind (9), New York, New York does not count - explanation | | December 22, 2011 I’m a frequenter. Great atmosphere with dim lights (but not so dark you can’t see) fitting the viking motif, and music that is good but is not blasting, so you can still have a conversation. It never gets extremely crowded unless it’s late on a Friday or Saturday night, and even then, we’ve always wound up getting a table or seat at the bar. Servers have always been quick and friendly, but in a short kind of way where they smile and walk away after serving you, even if there is nobody else to wait on. Not very conversational, which is probably good. I’ve had food here only a couple times, but the wings are good and meaty (and cheap during late-night hours). As for the selection, some of the earlier ratings should really be updated (if possible) b/c they have long since done away with the duplicate taps. They now have 24 separate beers on tap at all times, and you can usually find a bunch of beers you have never tried. In short: a fun, clean bar with quick, friendly service and B+ selection. Nice neighborhood joint that I would recommend checking out next time you’re in town. | | jredmond (111), Manhattan, New York | | December 6, 2011 [ Updated December 22, 2011 ] Drafts with some friends. Nice atmosphere, nice draft list (hill farmstead) and an okay bottle list. | | Pwn3d (61), Manhattan, New York | | May 25, 2009 Been here a few times when I used to live close by. This place has a nice rustic Scandinavian feel to it. Respectable number of taps with decent offerings.. I got some Southern Tier Harvest here. Decent bottle list too. Staff has been prompt and friendly on both occasions. This place needs more love. | | JoeMcPhee (398), Toronto, ON, Ontario | | October 7, 2008 Visited this place the other night while walking to a show. It quite a nice open space, longish bar off to one side with a few picnic-type tables directly across from it. Right at the back of the room is a plaster bust of a bare-chested Valkyrie... nice! It looks like there are more taps than there are, but there are duplicates of every handle. A pretty large bottle selection though. The few I tried were in good shape and the bartender was fast. No complaints about this place, especially given the dearth of beer bars near the entertainment district. | | Slipstream (59), | | October 7, 2008 [ Updated February 13, 2011 ] Nicely designed place, comfortable and clean. A good selection of taps (around 20) and bottles, with a number of unusual items. Not too crowded or noisy when I went, which was fine with me. Prices are pretty high, but not unusually so for New York City. A lively and attractive atmosphere prevails on weekend nights. | | MaxxDaddy (20), Hoboken, New Jersey | | January 7, 2008 Went here this past weekend, as it was recommended by several friends. A pretty dimly lit place with a couple of TVs, which was good as I was watching the Jags-Steelers game. As for the bar itself, it really didn’t stand out to me. Nothing extraordinary on tap or in bottles really. The best deal was a bottle of Double Simcoe for $11. Jess got an 11.2 ounce Rodenbach Grand Cru for $8. Taps are pretty expensive, ranging anywhere from 6 to 11 bucks. Decent place i suppose if you’re on the west side. | daniellerose7 (7), new york, New York does not count - explanation | | December 28, 2007 I like this place a lot! A little on the expensive side, but they have a good variety and selection of beers on tap, and a wide range of other beers, both standard and obscure, in bottles. No food here, but close to some amazing neighborhood restaurants (i.e. Island Burger...) |
