RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
Clean, efficient, modern brewpub with a half-dozen standards and a rotating list of seasonals. This is a case where the regular offerings tend to far outshine the seasonals. Top recommendations go to the Smoked Porter and Dogbite Bitter, the latter on cask blowing away everything else. The Burly Irish and Handsome Mick’s Stout are worthy as well. Food decent if unspectacular, service generally fairly prompt if you’re seated. The food menu hasn’t changed at all in 4 years. The bar tends to be very busy, and slow, most of the time. Nice outdoor patio with a view of City Hall Park. Two blocks from Three Needs and 100 yards from American Flatbread.

stopped by on beer tour, 09/21/08. Ordered sampler, my choice of 6 beers approx 3oz each. Micks smoked stout, from tap and cask, Spuiter Duyvil, Forbidden fruit, IPA and dogbiter. All were very well done, especially Forbidden and Spuiter, the soured ales. Not too much Brett in Spuiter, not to much raspberry in the Forbidden. The cask version of Micks was much better than the tap version, being served at a temperature which enhanced its smoke flavor. Service was mediocre, but got the job done. Menu was interesting format, and actually informative with it’s history of Ethan Allen. Very crowded and busy.

Wonderful place in downtown Burlington to catch a tasty lunch and sample their latest brewpub selections.

Avoid this place. Had maybe 8 beers on tap and the descriptions looked good. Had four of them and they were watery/off in taste except for one. Waitress had no knowledge of the beer which was disappointing but not as disappointing as the beer, the food and the service. unique menu display (newspaper) that was a plus. The price of the beer seemed too expensive, and the food was really terrible (the salad was old, and the house dressing was basically some watered down name brand dressing) and small compared to the price. Overall, probably the least friendly place for good beer lovers.

Stopped off in here a couple of times, quite a nice brew-pub, fairly good atmosphere, although the atmosphere changes depending on where you’re located, some parts feel like a busy restaurant, but at the same time the bar area is quite relaxed and informal. I had eight of their beers, which I think was everything they had on at the time. I don’t think they did a taster selection, but they do sell their beers in half pints, which makes it a little easier to try them all. They were pretty solid for the most part the Smoked Stout, Blue Nile Gruit (which was also rather different) and Bombay Grab IPA I found to be especially nice. The Grandslam Baseball Beer was pretty weak, but it didn’t sound too appetizing. The service was fairly on the ball when we went in, although they were a bit busy to be overly talkative. I had a cottage pie, which was reasonably priced, if not amazing to eat. Good place.

I don’t go here that often as it is usually quite crowded. A combination of decent food along with a good selection of quality brewed beers makes this a popular spot in busy downtown Burlington

Visited the Vermont Pub and Brewery on a self guided beer tour of northern Vermont in 2003. The food was great but the service was a little lacking. I was able to try 10 of there beers while there. A nice family style Brewpub.

Stopped here for lunch as part of my Burlington vacation. Service was good, except for the two waitresses that were fighting over who had my table. Had a burger, which was average. Tasted the IPA which was okay, they seemed to have your average brewpub selection on draft.

Nice dark wood interior. Very friendly waitress (although I’m not sure how knowledgable about beer she was). I was there for a late lunch - they weren’t too busy. Had a cask ale on tap - one of about 8 of their own brews in a variety of styles. Fairly typical brewpub menu. My chicken sandwhich and fries were good. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in Burlington.

Quite a legend in the North East. An authentic american brewpub, busy and in the heart of Burlington’s brewing axis. Very interesting beer selection with a variety of original and interesting recipes. The beer quality is constant and well above average if some recipes are less interesting. Always clean offerings anyway and with a cask that is always used. Friendly, smiling service does good considering the heavy business. Very wide food menu. I was eating at the neighbour Flatbread, but I’ll definitely want to try some of those appealing concoctions at some point, quite cheap also. And the beers ARE cheap undoubtedly at 3.50 a pint and a 75 cents 3oz. sample. A fine, quality institution.

Good beer selection, great Vermont cheese sampler, pub fare is reasonably priced. Beers are rather unremarkable. Just like others have said, the atmosphere is similar to any one of the big chain brew pubs. Worth stopping.
