| kschep (37), , Denmark | | January 11, 2012 nice, extensive bottle selection and draught list changes often enough. kind, knowledgeable staff | | PatIrish (11), Toronto, Ontario | | December 20, 2011 Awesome beer selection. Food however leaves to be desired. | | solidfunk (28), Ontario | | December 4, 2011 Great little place to hang out and sip beer. Their rotating local taps list is great, and obviously the bottle selection. A real place for beer connoisseurs, even if the prices are a bit inflated, especially for the bottles. You can pretty much get what you want, but at a price. | MickeyTheShoe (3), , does not count - explanation | | November 22, 2011 Small, so it’s hard to get a table. Staff are knowledgeable but in short supply. Selection is admittedly hard to beat in Toronto. Does get pricey, but you have to pay for the rare stuff that’s hard to get elsewhere. | | KPD (49), Michigan | | November 5, 2011 I visited early Friday afternoon as it opened and stayed for a few hours. It wasn’t very busy. They had a nice selection of Canadian micros on tap including some they are brewing. I had two of the house brews on the hand pull and they were nice. Later in the afternoon the regulars were coming in and it was an extraordinarily friendly group. Got to meet the owner and his son as well as the staff working. Great beer selection and great beer people and a great place to drink. | | rejtable (14), Ontario | | October 6, 2011 An institution. Always interesting tap selection. Bottle prices pretty high, but lots of value. I have found service can be hit or miss. | | RayOhm (32), Fergus, Ontario | | September 28, 2011 finally made it out here. i stay away from Toronto so I usually dont make it to these beer bars. loved the hardwood everywhere. the bartender who served us was very nice, and helpful. tap list was pretty good that day, and fairly reasonable prices for bottles. | | Mooncattie (36), Markham, Ontario | | September 24, 2011 The sort of place that simply could not have existed two decades ago. I visited during Toronto Beer Week, which back in the day would have meant Carling, Molson’s, or Labatt’s and not much else. Now there is a Golden Age for beer in Ontario, and I don’t mean Molson Golden. On my visit, Sept. 21/11, barVolo was offering a $5 Pint special with no less than 15 Ontario craft beers on tap. The room is rather small, pubby like, with a kind of two-level effect to offer a tad more privacy, and a side patio for those willing to brave the Toronto weather. Service was excellent, food nibblies were a cut above usual pub food - a bit pricey but very tasty. I went for four pints during my visit. King Pilsener, Flying Monkey’s Smash Bomb Atomic IPA, Denison’s Dunkel, and Grand River Mill Race Mild. All were interesting, the King was my favourite though. Although the Pils was meant to be a child of the Czechs, I decided maybe it was a first cousin of northern Germany’s Jever, and that is meant as a compliment. The Smash Bomb was VERY hoppy, like a double-IPA to my tastebuds, and near the upper limit of what I’m used to. I’d like to come back here and try some more of the Ontario IPAs coming along. Very Highly Recommended! | | northropfrye (33), Steinbach, Manitoba | | September 21, 2011 [ Updated January 5, 2012 ] Awesome place to get beer in Toronto. Very friendly and helpful service. The selection is world class (even if some stuff was out because we were there just after the Film Festival). | | Sdaniel90 (11), Estado de México, Mexico | | August 9, 2011 Amazing place in downtown Toronto. Not the cheapest, but certainly reasonable. Has some great local and American seleccions, as well as a few European options. Food is awesome. |
