| DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | January 5, 2012 This is a very good bottle shop but a word of warning. If you’re a big guy like me, it’s a bit cramped so watch your step. The wine is stacked in boxes on the floor with the beer lining the shelves so it’s never going to get any points for ambiance. They have a very generous pick-six policy and they didn’t hesitate to break up a six to sell a single. They also have a fantastic selection of local, regional, and world craft brands. It’s definitely up there with beer run for the best bottle shop in town. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | October 18, 2011 While camping in Shenandoah, my wife and I took a day trip out to visit where she lived growing up in Charlottesville, so we took a little detour and stopped here as well. Worth the stop. Nice selection of local things, as well as a good amount of imports and other domestic micro. Managed to pick up a couple of things that don’t make it up to NY. Would certainly stop in again if I were passing through the area. | | Thorpe429 (36), Alexandria, Virginia | | September 1, 2011 Visited this place while passing through Charlottesville on our way to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We were unfortunate to get there a few minutes after they closed, which was a surprise since it was 7:30 on a Friday. Luckily, a kind employee saw us and allowed us a quick through the store.
The craft selection is off to the right with a nice selection of U.S. stuff as well as plenty of imports, especially Belgian beer. Nice showing of Drie Fonteinen Oude Gueuze, and at really nice pricing. The U.S. selection was quite impressive, as they still had Firestone Abacus and Parabola, the former of which went in a day or so in Northern Virginia. Other than that, lots of standard distribution stuff, but they had it all, so no complaints there.
All in all, I’d certainly head back to this place to pick up some Belgians as well as to see what limited-release stuff they might still have. | | Velkyal (62), Charlottesville, Virginia | | October 26, 2010 Possibly the best bottle shop in Charlottesville. Excellent range from around the world and always willing to try and get new stuff in. | | tunneler (11), Charlottesville, Virginia | | July 19, 2010 Largest selection in town I believe, though you’ll still have to go to Market Street Wine Shop and Beer Run to get the full breadth of selection available in Cville. Not everyone on the staff knows beer, but one or two guys seem to try everything new as it comes in. Large selection of singles and they will let you break apart a 6. Prices about as low as you’ll find except for a Total Beverage-type place. | | weihenweizen (63), Charleston Area, West Virginia | | February 9, 2010 [ Updated July 11, 2011 ] This place does mostly wine, however they still have one of the best selections of beer I have seen. They keep the place pretty cool. The prices are about average. This place has a great selection of singles. If you are in the area I would go check it out. | | keepersj12 (48), Sicklerville, New Jersey | | August 2, 2009 Hard to find but worth it. I gave it a 5 for ambiance because there wasn’t any and they didn’t even try. Cut open wine boxes are stacked all over. The beer is located on the right wall. Very nice selection of local beers along with many others. The guys working there were very helpful. I was allowed to break 6 packs and take a single. The prices were very reasonable. | | Butters (164), Richmond, Virginia | | December 11, 2008 This place had the largest selection of beers in Charlottesville that I visited, its probably one of the largest selections in the state for that matter. They advertise *the lowest prices in town* but I found that not entirely to be the case. They will price match anywhere else in town though. Huge selection of 12oz single bottles in their *hodge podge* section. Knowledgeable staff. Lots of beers. Decent prices. What more could you want? ^editorial note^ I updated the number of bottles they carry, and somehow I got credit for the *entered by*. Im guessing it has something to do with ratebeer simple mode. I apologize to whoever I stole the credit from | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | October 22, 2007 [ Updated August 23, 2010 ] Decent prices, and the beer and wine selections are both top-notch. Ambience and staff are unpretentious and the staff is very knowledgable. Temperature is kept low to benefit the goods, so if you chill easily, bring a sweater. Good Belgian selection. They allow you to pull singles from any six pack. Prices are competitive and among the lowest in town. Matt the beer guy knows his stuff. Top notch place. | | Immy (107), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | June 28, 2007 Hit this place on the way back from RBSG 2007. Thanks maniac! Mostly a wine store, with wine piled high in boxes. Good selection of beer, particularly lambics. Lots of oddball stuff, a cool place to stop. |
