| beeroverthere (15), | | January 26, 2012 I really like this place. The atmosphere is great and the beer selection is fantastic. | | TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | August 15, 2011 haha, the picture here is of the carrboro location. someone should fix that. anyway. this location is much larger than the carrboro tylers and has more taps. not to say they are that much better than carrboro qualitatively, but they do tend to do their special release events out here instead of carrboro, i guess because it’s a bigger space. I wish it was much better but it’s what we got. | | BigBang (19), Indiana | | August 5, 2011 This is an excellent spot. Not sure why people have given it a bad review because it was really busy. It is a really neat place in the tobacco mill. Tap selection is really strong and they did a nice job of matching glassware that is labeled for each beer. Food was nice - enjoyed a build-a-burger and thenawesome garlic fries. Hope to return soon. | | derekbrown (11), Greenville, North Carolina | | January 1, 2011 Great selection of beer; food not as good as Village Draft House, but solid Taproom overall. | | phaleslu (241), Saint Louis, Missouri | | December 13, 2010 Met up with local legend JCB here on a Friday afternoon for lunch and some pints. The surrounding area is pretty cool, with the old American Tobacco buildings rehabbed with restaurants and shops (in St. Louis the building would have been abandoned for 40 years and then demolished, so I appreciate this). The inside is fine, with a big, well-lit main room and nice back bar, and a lot of wood. The service behind the bar was friendly but slow at times. I was thrilled to see so many local and regional labels: Fullsteam, Foothills, Skull Coast, The Duck-Rabbit, Terrapin, et al- that’s exactly the kind of stuff I came here for, but there is a lot more on the taps, too. My sandwich was okay, but the garlic fries that came with it were tasty. Prices are fair. Tyler’s made for a nice afternoon of NC drinking, and I would call this a must-visit if you’re in Durham for a day or more. | peteoreilly (2), does not count - explanation | | December 10, 2010 Great selection, 4 beer wings are great and very kid friendly. Must stop before Bulls game, | | nearbeer (144), Knoxville, Tennessee | | November 9, 2010 Impressive, and up-to-date beer list. Nice restored warehouse atmosphere in historic downtown area. Food and service was above average and prices were very reasonable. | DAwoodennickel (2), hillsborough, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | June 4, 2010 this is a cool bar in a really cool part of town with a tremendous beer selection rivaled by few | william146 (5), Winterville, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 18, 2010 I’ve been to the Speakeasy a few times -- great selection of beer on tap. Location can’t be beat - very cool location in the American Tobacco District. | | TheBeerGod (98), Newport News, Virginia | | October 16, 2009 Went here after WBF Durham. After a pleasant trip to the Apex Tyler’s, we figured we’d stop here afterward for drinks. What a mistake. We sat outside due to the nice weather. However, our waitress might as well have been at the fest. When we saw her, it was usually accompanied by attitude. We were going to eat here, but I did not and only ordered one drink. Once we caught whiff of what was happening with our service, we generally agreed to walk down to Mellow Mushroom. Some in the group ordered and received their food/drinks. Others didn’t. The real kick in the nuts came when the bills came. Because there were 7 of us, despite the service, they charged 18.6% tip! We could have argued but quickly went to a better place in Mellow Mushroom. Willing to go back for a second chance on a less hectic weekend if in Durham. |
