I want this place to be great but it’s not yet. The food is good but not at the price. Would like a brewery to be more hospitable. The beer by style is a nice idea, but it doesn’t endear me to be a regular customer. Finding a better price point for the food would make the changing beer list more interesting.

Made a recent visit and came away impressed. Pleasant, open ambiance, excellent staff, and good beers, both house and guest. Didn’t get a chance to sample the eats, but they certainly looked good. We’ll stop in again.

made first visit today and there was 5 of us in our party. very neat and clean was the first thing i noticed and you could smell a little bit of the smokiness but was not offensive. the waitress (margaret) was a little busy but didnt bother us none we were busy talking and such. the 2 teens with us didnt care for the orange cream soda nor the kiwi melon. they said it was watery..got the sampler for the beers best value and you get to taste them all. my favorite today was the barleywine and then the session pale ale. all were good but i was partial to those. the food started with the pork nachos..highly recommend. their kettle chips with shreds of pork, pickled onions, jalapeno’s and feta cheese with their bbq sauce. pretty darn good. daughter said her chicken club was good. the burgers was done to order and rather enjoyed them. only thing i wasnt aware of was the no free refills on the soft drinks. oh well live and learn. but over all had a great experience.

Have been in a few times and I really do enjoy the place. There’s very little to complain about. The place is very nice, almost too nice. My only major complaint is the food is a little too expensive for my tastes (hey, I’m broke!) and the beer tends to be a little too hoppy for the style, even when they are supposed to be malty beers. But, like I said, the place is great, food tastes wonderful, go there, you won’t be disappointed.

Really good place and a nice addition to Louisville, particularly in Downtown. I really enjoyed the one trip here and will certainly be back. Selection-wise, they have six standard house taps, two guest taps, two casks, and a specialty tap that was brewed in house but with someone else’s recipe. The guest taps were Ommegang Hennepin and a New Albanian seasonal (good sign). House beers were excellent. My favorite was the "Whim" (Kentucky Ryed Chiquen), which was a little hoppy but also had this very subtle whiskey flavor, coming from the ryed whiskey barrels they aged it in. I was also told that the whiskey itself (they have a bottle of it, in addition to a number of very good whiskeys and bourbons) was aged in port barrels. I also really liked the ESB. Not as bitter as I like ESB’s to be, but it was very, very malty and almost sweet. Really smooth beer that would be excellent for a pint. The Black & Mild was on the "Smoke" tap, and that was also a favorite. Close to, but not quite smokey enough to be a rauch, it had a lot of malt flavor only supplemented by the smoke. They had this on cask. I tried that for my one pint but couldn’t really get a sense of the nuances. A very mysterious beer. But I also have to note the "Session" tap, which was an excellent session beer and was very drinkable. We did the pulled pork sandwich. It’s not served with fries, but comes with cole slaw instead. What I really liked about this place was that, even though they’re south of the Ohio River, they use a vinegar (really more mustard) based slaw. I asked about this, and was told that they don’t do any mayonnaise. This was backed up by the couple next to us asking for ranch dressing when they were unsatisfied with the light balsamic on their salad (which looked great). The bartender responded that there was no ranch but offered caesar. You stay classy, Louisville... The brewer came out and chatted with us and I got a little insight on the operation and beer styles. Very limited distribution right now as they build their base, but I can’t wait to get it up in Indiana. Really excellent beer.

First visit since the changeover from Brownings. Feel of the place was about the same. The beer was quite good. I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was very good, but it was $9 and didn’t even include fries ... thus the low score on value. But, I will return!

Easy to find location with a large parking lot next door. New and clean bar and tables in wood and old brick building in the front of Slugger Field. Very freindly small crowd. Beer selection is good and well balanced. Sandwich and salad menu. Very good beer, food and entertainment location and good adddition in the area.

A good addition to the downtown Louisville beer scene this is located just outside of Slugger Field and down the block from the basketball arena. Parking might be an issue but there should be something nearby.

The food is solid and accents the beer selection well. At any time there are two cask beers, six regulars, and the occasional special release. Following themes like "Smoke" and "Session" they are brewed to different styles. Try the $6.00 sampler which a good way to get acquainted with the offerings.

If you are in the area check this place out. It’s not too far from a few other stops such as the Louisville Beer Store.

Made a trip to Against The Grain last weekend, it’s the newest brewpub in Louisville located in the old Browning’s. They have around 6 brews of their own on tap along with some offerings on cask, and also a few guest taps too. I tried the sampler, and everything on it was quality. I ended up getting their 35K on cask and it’s a very good brew. It seems that they’re focusing their beers more towards the craft customers (some of their brews included a Bière de Garde and a Belgian IPA), which is definitely a good thing. Me and my friends ate there as well, I ended up getting the crawfish Po Boy sandwich which was good. Also tried the beer cheese appetizer that all of us liked a lot. The prices for both the food and beer seemed fair, the service was great and I have no complaints about the place at all. I’ll certainly go back to Against The Grain in the future, and if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth the trip.

Part of the Louisville Slugger Field complex so kind of impossible not to find. Nice, fairly small place - can imagine gets very crowded on Friday/Saturday nights. Have a rotating selection of six different beers in specific styles (hop, smoke, dark, malt, session, and whim) along with some specialty beers (including cask ales). The food we had was very good (especially liked the pickled onions) but not much for kids (only had bologna sandwiches and homemade potato chips). Great place - looking forward to many more visits - especially looking forward to pre-gaming before a minor league game next year.
