hoppknobs (1), Floyds Knobs, Indiana does not count - explanation | | December 22, 2011 I have been a fan of BBC since it opened in the early 90s. However, the quality of the beer has decreased at tap in St. Matthews. Over the past few months, words like "tinny," "flat" and "weak" are good descriptors for the variety of beers I have had there. Last night, when I order a pizza that features roasted garlic, and always in the past contained roasted garlic from a clove, I got what the waitress called "roasted garlic sauce" sans actual garlic. Her response to my comment about the poor quality of the cooking was "the chef on this night, no doubt!" Just a sad state of affairs to a once great establishment. | Quietude (6), Lexington, Kentucky does not count - explanation | | July 28, 2011 Had dinner with the wife and kid on a Wednesday night. Although the parking lot was full, we were seated immediately. Food is reasonably priced and delicious (burger for me, hot brown for the wife) and the beer, obviously, is the main selling point. Appreciate that they serve full and half pints, unlike the chain restaurants where you can only get tanker trucks to drink.
Service was fairly good, but the restaurant was a bit hot (admittedly it was 95 outside). Will definitely make this a regular stop. | | jkwood04 (29), Connecticut | | March 29, 2011 Had dinner here during happy hour. A pretty cool place with its microbrews on tap. Definitely worth trying, and the food is not bad either. | BeerBuzzed (7), Louisville, Kentucky does not count - explanation | | January 3, 2011 i love BBC, think they are the best local brewer - my opinion. quality of their beer is good - and consistent - i crave their alt and stout if i go too long without it, and all their beers are well-done - and i always enjoy their specials and seasonals. food is quite good as well. having said that the service can be unbelievably bad at times - you’d almost swear the bar staff were ignoring you intentionally (maybe they are?) - while they hang out with people they know at the bar. sometimes they are attentive and friendly, a welcome surprise - but it’s not consistent. It can have a bit of a snobby feel if you are not a regular-regular, member of their wort-hog club. but it’s a good place overall, with well-above average beer and it’s worth being in your regular rotation of places to go. | | changeup45 (78), Mount Dora, Florida | | October 27, 2010 Visitied this location while in the area on business. Didn’t look like much from outside but a pretty nice vibe here; one large bar area and then a separate seating area that still has the brewpub feel. Relatively limited number of draft choices consisting of quite a few standards (Pale, Brown, Wheat, etc) but with some special stuff and seasonals as well. However, they also have 750’s available of brews that weren’t available on tap. Solid pub food that gets a slight bump due to the fact that they apparently make their chips in house and they were quite good. Bartender was friendly. Prices reasonable. Nothing spectacular here but a good time. | | Chudwick (47), Taylor Mill (KY), France | | May 13, 2010 Good ambiance considering the neighborhood. Service is usually prompt and helpful. Limited selection, but the quality is there. Food is tasty, but nothing to write home about, except maybe the Bison Burger. Fairly inexpensive (this is KY after all). Good place to return to on a monthly basis. | | phaleslu (241), Saint Louis, Missouri | | April 12, 2010 Visited the BBC brewpub St. Matthews location on my way from Nashville to Cincinnati. The building is fortunately painted bright yellow; I might have driven by it otherwise because of the large building that blocks the view driving west on Shelbyville Road. The interior has a large front room with a square bar, a patio beyond it on the left and a dining room to the back. I ordered a sampler at the bar, which included 5 of their regular selections and 2 seasonals. I followed that up with lunch and a pint, and bought all available (8 at the time) 750 ml bottles on my way out, so it was a pretty big tab. It’s nice to have so many of those available, along with the regular six-packs and growlers. You can have your beer to-go however you like it. The food is pretty good, and there were multiple TVs visible from where I sat so I took in the Masters and the Reds-Cubs game while I ate and drank. The service was a bit slow, as the guy behind the bar was a slow mover and the girl didn’t even make eye contact with me. A third guy came in later and was more attentive, but it seemed like maybe a lot of the staff was being used for a private party on the patio. Good place, and it’s worth a visit to one of Louisville’s only brewpubs. Now I have to check out the downtown location. | | troycecil (10), , Kentucky | | March 6, 2010 Over the past couple of years my attitude toward the BBC brews has changed from one of scoffing at their beers to one of eager curiosity. I’ve grown fond of the BBC’s Bourbon Barrel Beers, and I’ve tasted some others that have pleasantly surprised me. A time or two the surprise has been not so pleasant however, so make sure you ask for a taste before you order.
The food at BBC and the BBC Beers’ local popularity kept me returning and trying their brews. I’ve noticed an improvement at BBC that I hope continues. | scottlikesbeer (9), does not count - explanation | | March 2, 2010 Fun place! | jpyocom (2), Louisville, does not count - explanation | | March 1, 2010 BBC beers and foods are consistently good. Love the milk stout! |
