| JoeinEscazú (200), San Jose, Costa Rica | | May 10, 2012 Nothing quite like a big, sprawling brewpub with large food portions and a massive selection of its own beers. Bigness. This is America. I was there after a day at Great Taste and took no notes on the beer. It’s entirely possible that I only drank water. I do remember ordering something absurd like mac-and-cheese-and-bacon pizza, although I don’t see it on the regular menu. Well, it was either that or the brat-and-pretzel burger, wasn’t it? | | Atom (37), Minneapolis, Minnesota | | May 1, 2012 Stop here every time I’m in town. Solid beers and food. Located right downtown in a cool older building. Place is pretty big including a downstairs patio and pool hall. Prices are very reasonable with friendly service. | | Thure (10), , Denmark | | March 27, 2012 Great place with a very friendly service and a great selection of beer and food. Many interesting seasonals. | | mrjaxson (20), Wisconsin | | February 12, 2012 A classic brewpub with decent beers and an outstanding food menu. This location has a terrific pool hall (five pool tables and a few shuffleboard tables) on the King Street side and a restaurant with a diversified menu on the Doty street side (two levels). In the pool hall, we had an excellent waitress named Luray who was more than happy to help guide us toward beers that matched the tastebuds in our group. Prices very much in line with the area. Just a few blocks due east of the capitol building. Will visit again when in Madtown. | | hombrepalo (100), Chicago, Illinois | | January 4, 2012 Spent my New Year night at Great Dane. The place is right in the heart of Madison, near the capital. the palce was packed but the service was still pretty good. Selection of about 15-20 house brews, nothing that will wow a beer geek. The prices were cheap, like 4-5 a 20oz. Overall the place is nice and the prices are cheap. | | porlopp (13), Minneapolis, Minnesota | | December 9, 2011 One of my favorite spots to visit Downtown when I go back home. Love the dark wood and multiple levels. Plus, their stuff is actually pretty tasty! | | arkurzynski (58), West Bend, Wisconsin | | November 1, 2011 This is my favorite location. Heart of the capitol, great rustic feeling to the place. Beer offerings are always decent and rotating. Food is always a very good. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | October 4, 2011 Late night drinks on a Friday with friends. This is a big space - many different rooms, all nicely decorated with solid wood and antique fixtures. Beers are always solid. I did not here this visit, though in the past I have been very impressed with quality and selection of food. Overall - the multiple rooms provide several options for a night out - the beers are certainly worth drinking and the food is solid. | stangger (4), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | August 26, 2011 Nice, spacious place in the heart of Madison. We went on a Monday afternoon, so we didn’t have a gauge of typical crowd levels. The 3 of us all had burgers, which weren’t great and actually made 2 of us a bit sick later. Server was good. Lots of beer but none of it was particularly good. The Black Earth porter was by far the best i tried (of 8, I think). | | PaulUnwin (50), Pinellas Park, Florida | | July 10, 2011 Great location, plenty of character, the food was good as well, much like the beer, nothing really amazing, but pretty good. They basically have a tabled area like a restaurant, a nice old bar area, then what is more like a sports bar, pool tables and a few other things. Would definitely go back again!! |
