| DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | June 7, 2011 This building for this place is stunning. It’s located next to a creek/stream and there were plenty of good views from the restaurant. The interior was modeled after an English pub, the kind that has a comfortable, worn-in feel. The bar was made from wood that used to be part of the lanes of a bowling alley. The fish and chips were quite tasty. Everyone was pleasant and since their no TV’s or radio’s blaring. their was a nice pub atmosphere. The beer, you ask? They had 5 things on tap and two on cask. I wanted to like it , but there wasn’t a single one I cared for. They all seemed flat and some had weird aftertastes as though the lines hadn’t been recently cleaned. It’s not the most convenient place to get to but if you find yourself in the area, keep in mind they also have 35-40 English beers in bottles, Stick to those. | mjackson (1), , does not count - explanation | | May 13, 2011 food very average to poor, service ok

Maybe "up for sale". | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | April 14, 2010 Neat old place in a small town way up there. Has a nice British/Ship feel to it. Had a speakeasy during prohibition in the back and the waiter told me that the tables are made of decking from old ships. The menu is mostly english food and besides their in house brews (which were not that good) they have a nice mix of some hard to find bottles from the British Isles. Had a table overlooking a small creek and it is walking distance from the bridge over the Delaware. Was a nice place to bring my girlfriend. | | austinpowers (152), New York, New York | | August 8, 2009 This place is terrific! It had fantastic ambiance - a very British feel. One of my favorite pubs of all-time! | | TomDecapolis (69), Skippack, Pennsylvania | | August 8, 2007 Nice British Pub feel in this little restaurant/pub/brewery just off the Delaware River on the Jersey side. A few people in the place having dinner along with a couple locals sitting at the pub bar on a Wednesday evening in August. The Smith playing in the background gave it a nice British touch.
So I started out by asking for their sampler of house beers. Found out that only three of six were on tap. Kind of odd for a brewery to only have 3 hours beers on. But they do have a smaller older style system. The system actually looked pretty cool. Decent England based bottled beer menu.
I got the beer battered shrimp. Very solid, almost fish and chips type fried shrimp. Pretty much what I expected. Server was very nice and friendly. They “used to have wireless” so that was a bit of a disappointment when I’m traveling solo on business I like to bring the laptop along to do some work…while rating some beers straight to the web.
Order the Chocolate Crème Brulee with a nice English Porter.
| | freekyp (31), Thomasville, North Carolina | | December 31, 2006 Situated in a small country town just on the Delaware river, the Ship Inn is cloaked in dark mahogony wood and maritime decor. Service was not as attentive as it could have been, especially considering it was slow. They only had four of their beers going, but one was on cask. That being said, they have an excellent English bottle selection. Nonetheless, I come to a brewpub to drink the house beers, and 4 was a little dissapointing. The food (lunch) was very good. Try the cheese and onion pie. | | Ernest (115), Boulder, Colorado | | May 30, 2006 A pretty nice little restaurant/pub in a quaint small NJ town. The house beer was weak (head brewer was reportedly having personal issues at the time and thus was not putting much effort into the beer, so I did not rate the beers), but they had a reasonably good bottle menu as well (albeit UK-centric). Some of the food sounded interesting but wasn’t all that tasty (but then, it’s mostly British food so expectations are low to start with)...I had the venison and it was pretty gamey. The service was standoffishly polite, but not attentive (and it was a slow night, so sorry folks, you don’t get the "too busy" excuse). | | Probiere (46), Iowa | | July 7, 2005 My favorite NJ brewpub. Good house beers, good bottle selection. Quiet. Good British pub food, and chocolate creme brulee to DIE for. I need to find someone new to drag here, as thinking about the place has made me realize I’m overdue for a visit and I feel silly going alone when it’s more fun to share. | | willblake (81), Bel Air, Maryland | | June 15, 2005 [ Updated August 18, 2005 ] Worth a quite long drive for me to visit periodically. The house beers are very good, some of the best I’ve had in NJ. Their selection of UK beers, bottled and tap, is also extensive. Service is always pleasant and there are some crusty old locals I’ve seen as regulars. The food I had was very good and I’ve never run into a problem with them being out of what I asked for. Many nice seats with great views and the barstools are comfy, too. Handpumps!
Visited again on 08.18.05, one year since my last visit. Horrible house beers were in pathetic shape. Bartender didn’t even bother to ask if anything was wrong despite my only drinking half of each beer then asking him to dump them. Bartender was busting his ass trying to keep the locals with full glasses but I had to flag him down for attention even though I was sitting right next to the taps at the very small bar. They only had three of their own beers on tap, none on beer engines. Food was still very good and quite cheap. No reason to think the beers in their great collection of bottles would be in any better shape so I just left. I’ll not be going back. I would only reccommend going here for a meal and rolling the dice with something from their bottle list. Original rating 5-9-13-8-15 | | YogiBeera (109), Hamburg, Germany | | December 2, 2004 Very nice place to go. Like a typical english pub with carpeted floors and a nice wooden bar. Service was great and very nice. The selection is ok - also they have a good list of other alcoholic beverages. All in all a nice place to spent some time and I heard from friends that the food is great. |
