IF you visit New Orleans don’t go to the French Quarter looking for a beer bar. Turn around 180 degrees and make your way here. It may look a bit like a dive bar but the tap list, food, and atmosphere make this one of the best places I’ve ever been.

For the sampler you can pay by the ounce which means even if you get flights your final tab will be less than two drinks on Bourbon Street. If you want full pours the servers will give you generous 16 ounce pours in most cases. Either way the bang for the buck is second to none and that’s not even during Happy Hour when beers are $2.00 off.

Finally the food - I did not have high expectations but my meal may have been one of the best affordable options in town. Between the burgers, appetizers, and other options there is something for everyone. This is not a place to miss if you are in New Orleans.

Beer selection was fantastic, lots of stuff I’d never seen before, especially on draft. Great selection of vintage brews as well, but the food definitely left something to be desired, some of the worst I’ve had in New Orleans. Great service and great ambiance, just eat first and find a hotel nearby (like the fantastic Fairchild House around the corner).

Great place for a beer in New Orleans, selection is top notch and the food is amazing, especially the "Fries to die for." The place is a little run down but it adds character. I will definitely go here every time I’m in New Orleans.

my summary of Avenue Pub is that, for my short week in New Orleans, I felt that this bar is legitimately one of the best beer bars in the United States. a few things that are very important that they seem to excel at: 1) create a unique, comfortable, welcoming and social environment: upstairs and downstairs bars, balcony outside up top and a painted stairwell that will remind you of a college house. 2) expansive tap list with balance of local, regional, national and international options. 3) expansive bottle list with the same, including some bottles considered quite rare in the states. 4) they arrange events featuring exclusive taps of high quality and varying styles, pretty much ensuring that there’s no person that could visit and NOT find a number of good things to try, new to that person.

Fantastic selection and really cool folks. Love the patio! Watch the trolleys roll by and the ladies jog up the track. Not too far from Cooter Browns or The Bulldog either.

Hopless, hopless, hopless. This place did not have a decent hop laden beer to speak of. That being said, the selection was amazing. I spoke to a woman who said she didn’t care for hoppy beers. She said she lived in Rehobeth Delaware for a while and when I mentioned Dogfish Head, she said she didn’t care for them, too hoppy. Anyway, this is the place in NOLA for a beer. The service stinks, there is no service, you have to get your own food and drink but the beers are incredible. You have to put up with some shit every now and then. No other place in NOLA comes close.

The best craft beer bar in New Orleans and easily top 10 in the US. Such an amazing selection of rare beer bottles and hosts amazing events. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere in an old house. The patio has a great view of St Charles Avenue. Food was good. A must stop while in New Orleans!

Went here during the week of the Swedish beer event. While a bit dark and divey at the downstairs portion of the bar, the upstairs and balcony areas provide a great view over St. Charles Ave. What can I say about this place other than the beers and service were excellent. Even without the Swedish beers, the pub had a bunch of great stuff on tap, including Pannepot Grand Reserva 2008, Jolly Pumpkin beers, 1809 Berliner Weisse, the list goes on and on. The bottle list is extensive as well and runs the gamut of styles. Prices on both taps and bottles were very reasonable; probably some of the best bottle prices I’ve seen at a bar (around the same area as Ginger Man in NYC, which was by far the best I had encountered before I came here). Got the roast beast sandwich while I was there. Thought it was pretty good; the fries weren’t quite my style. And best of all, Polly was extremely welcoming and a pleasure to talk to. RB can use more people like her and places like the Avenue Pub. A must-visit if you’re in New Orleans.

Dark, kinda run down place that is a converted house of sorts (don’t worry, keep reading), but in the end, it doesn’t matter. It’s easy to get to off of the main drag and the beers are worth it. The staff is friendly and knowledgable, and Polly is great and obviously does her damndest to get good beers. The food was delish as well. Basically, you have to fo here if you’re in New Orleans.
