Finding this place was a bit tough as it wasn’t where the GPS said it would be. Finding a place to sit down inside was just as tough as it was packed late on a Friday night. Luckily a nice couple gave up their spots at the bar for us so we were able to eat and sit, which was nice after walking close to 30 miles the last two days. The place reminds me of every other German style brewpub/restaurant I’ve been to. Large, wooden, festive, german garb worn by all and large pints of lager with nary a hop in sight. The food was good, the beer was okay and the service was great. As a personal aside, I hate valet parking and it’s the only option here. I can park my own vehicle and don’t want anyone else in it. Perhaps it’s a way to get people from parking in their lot and heading elsewhere.

Really fun spot - big German food & beer drinking hall, oftentimes with live oompah music. I stop everytime I’m in the area.

Nice beer. Your classic German beer place with nice selection of food and beer. The day we were there a nice group of people around the bar. Food is good German brewpub fare. Will stop each time I’m through the area.

Service was slow at first and then whimsical and entertaining waiter appeared and was quite knowledgeable about their beers. Atmosphere was beergarden meets Christmas Oompah music. Places offers a great selection, but 75% are seasonals (one a month with a handful as reserves). Food was hit and miss. I loved their wursts, but their sauerkraut was not sour. Not especially a great value, but then again, this is Kentucky. I’ll be sure to go again in November, when they have the weizenbock.

If you like being taken advantage of as a tourist, this place is for you. I must be a masochist, but I check this place out every time I’m in Cincy, because they brew great German beer that is fresh. The problem is that the food has really gone downhill...the schweinshaxe is now $24.95, and the other entrees were obviously mass-produced and should be an embarassment to their Bavarian owners. I heard a rumor that they are losing an exorbidant amount of money from people stealing their masskrugs and it appears that they are trying to make it up in their food prices. I would like to be able to recommend the Hofbrauhaus for the beer only, but they have a very limited selection. Americans have become spoiled by having a lot of choices, so If they could offer some of their seasonal speciality brews year round, it would be a must stop. I realize that suggestion flies in the face of tradition, but for the four styles of beer on tap, it’s not worth your while unless you’re in Newport or downtown.

A fun German brewpub in downtown Newport KY (right on the Ohio River). I happened to stop by during Oktoberfest, which was pretty fun (lots of people dressed up and they had live music). It is German-hall style with a square-bar and then long wooden tables where everyone can sit together. There are tables outside as well. Obviously, only German beer served, roughly 5-6 taps. I tried the Weizen, Oktoberfest, Premium Lager, and Dunkel and all were very good (and this is someone who is not particularly a fan of German styles). The beers are served in 1/2 or full liter mugs (or weizen glasses). I got the chicken spatzle which was very tasty and some potato and bacon soup, which was also very good. You can’t go wrong with the food, although some of the items were on the pricier side. I had a great time here during my 2 visits and would enjoy going back again.

Every time I go up to Newport, Cincinnati, or Northern Kentucky in general this place is always a must for me. The food is amazing and the beer is just as good. They brew their beers right there in the restaurant and they always taste super fresh. The service is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. Reasonable prices as well. I love this place!

Nice size German style hall. Touristy, if that’s more descriptive. Food is decent but not overly flavorful. I actually like their beer. I’ve been there a few times and service ranges from adequate to poor. This is not because they were busy but they were just poor servers.

My wife and I recently visited Cincinnati and kept mentioning the fact that everyone looked so healthy (coming from Michigan). Then we crossed over into Kentucky - fatty tourist central in Newport. First time we drove by the Hofbrauhaus there was a line out the front door. We eventually went the next day for lunch. It was great - good beer, food and service.
