| LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | January 25, 2012 A pretty good brewpub in West Virginia. It is a small, cozy place with not too much seating. They do have TVs. Someone (the manager?) thought it was a good idea to turn off all the lights and just let in ambient light on a Sunday afternoon which was a bit odd because it was pretty dim inside. They had about 6-7 beers on tap, 1 seasonal I think (a double IPA). The beers I tried were pretty good. The food is greasy but good (got a Philly chicken cheesesteak). Definitely a fun stop and the beer is good too. Worth a visit if you’re nearby!
| | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | August 17, 2011 Stopped by around lunchtime. They have dedicated parking which is nice as the roads around there are a zoo. Neighborhood sports bar feel. No one was really eating there but they had a ton of carryout orders. Locals must down these burgers by the dozen. had a burger which was not the best quality but was tasty enough. The employees were quite ncie. Some earlier raters stated they have no sampler... they have changed this policy and so I was able to try a sampler of all 7 beers on tap plus the root beer. The beers were all fairly average in quality with a couple above average. | | fromred2green (18), , Ohio | | March 13, 2011 Visited in December 2010 on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t too busy and everyone was very friendly. They have a nice selection of their own beers as well as a few macros. Decent food. Prices are quite low. I sampled just about all of the beers on tap and took home a growler. Worth a stop if you are in the area. | | chriso (258), London, England | | March 5, 2011 Visited in March 2010 on a quiet lunchtime. The gaming machines gave it a slightly seedy feel but the overall ambience was cosy, if a little ramshackle. Distinctly local feel. Service was firendly but not that attentive - as there were very few customers the single bar tender kept wandering off to do something else. Eight of their own beers on tap. No sampler offered but the bar tender did provide tasters of the beers on request. The stronger beers were pretty decent, although there were also a number of "light" beers on offer. Food was functional and dirt cheap. Certainly worth a stop if passing through. | | JStax (43), Devola, Ohio | | May 6, 2010 [ Updated September 5, 2010 ] North End Tavern always provides a good time to anybody looking to have one. In the area, as far as local Brewpubs go, this is definitely the place to go. The beers they brew here are excellent and the barmaids are hilarious. The food is great as well and come with very generous proportions of everything. On top of all of this, they recently began brewing their own root beer. This stuff is fantastic as well. There really is nothing bad to say about this place. | Fishgaarden (1), does not count - explanation | | January 7, 2010 Very friendly staff. Accomodating and helpful. Roast beef sandwich was a bit salty, but fries and poppers were good. Servers were patient, and drinks were good. I will return sometime when I’m in the area. | | weihenweizen (63), Charleston Area, West Virginia | | January 3, 2010 Ambiance is above par. People are friendly and service is well above average. Not much selection other than what is on draft. Didn’t have the food. Good value and if you are in the area try this place out. | | cking (26), North Canton, Ohio | | February 12, 2009 Friendly, low key tavern located in a hard working town. I arrived toward the end of the lunch rush and there was a good sized crowd filling their bellies. I sat at the bar and got a porter served up lickity-split. Nice looking place with an open bar/dining area. There are two other rooms off the main area, one is a newer looking dining area and the other is a covered smoking area complete with warm tube heaters and an LCD Television. These two areas are all connected and both look over the brew house, which is clean and cool. Lots of wood and low lighting, couple that with the Keno and other assorted Lotto type games and this place simply screams "TAVERN". I talked it up with the ladies tending bar and both were extremely friendly and chatty. They had 4 of their beers on tap at a few bucks per pint. The Roedy’s Red (on tap) is also bottled in 22 ounce bombers and can be taken with you for $3, they also fill growlers. I walked away with a handful of the Red bombers and a growler filled with | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | January 31, 2008 (Visited 10/2007): North End Tavern is fairly close to downtown Parkersburg and about 5 minutes from I-77 atop a hill on Emerson Ave. There is parking on the side and rear of the establishment.
The brewpub looks really cool from the outside, definitely an old building. However the atmosphere takes a significant hit once you go inside. It is dark with the bar on the right and tables around the middle and left. The bar really caters to gambling, complete with a closed-in room with games. Overall it’s a rather seedy look.
The beer selection is average. N.E.T. has 5-6 beers available from Lager to Porter, with Roedy’s Red being their flagship beer. All of the beers are average. They offer bottles of Roedy’s to go for $3 and growlers of available beers for $14. There is not a sampler on the menu but my bartender was fine with giving samples.
Service here was fine on a slow Tuesday lunch. As mentioned she provided samples of the beers. The pint glasses were frozen though.
The food was somewhat of a saving grace. The cook knows his greasy-spoon menu. My burger and onion rings were very good.
Overall I will definitely visit this place again despite its shortcomings. Parkersburg does not have any other brewpubs so for that reason alone it is worth a stop. | | f351c4v (77), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania | | November 11, 2007 Nice little brewpub, located on the north side of Parkersburg (imagine that!) Stopped here during a recent trip to the area, bar seats around 10 or so, a few booths, some tables. The bar and dining area was dark, but comfortable. Beers were average, nothing outstanding to note. The porter was the best, by far. Service was excellent, very attentive, and personable. Burger was cheap, and pretty good, to boot! Would visit again if I ever found myself in the area. |
