One of the few bars that get me out of my apartment on a somewhat regular basis. Good atmosphere if its not prime "bar" hours but usually can find a corner to sit and relax with some splendid ever changing selection ! Haven’t eaten too much there but the charcuterie selections are always good company for the beers. Huge beer menu with and ever changing draught list that they update daily on their website... I troll the draught list and stop in when there is something special I cant grab elsewhere and bring home. Every time I go there I tend to spend too much money but thats not really their fault !

This place has grown on me. I have been frequenting it more since I stopped going to the Lion’s Pride. The staff isn’t the friendliest sometimes, but they have a decent selection and a cool location. I haven’t tried any of the food yet.

I’ve been to this place a bunch of times, and I don’t understand why it gets such high ratings. The selection is somewhat decent, but they don’t have a lot of the beers listed on the bottle menu. The service is mostly pretty lousy. I have yet to be wowed by anything I’ve had here. There are much better beer bars in Maine.

Awesome basement level bar in the Old port area. Kind of tucked away in an alley. Inside is cozy, woody, a main ’bar’, a smaller sidebar and tables kind of scattered around. With the old wood and brick, etc, it has a great ambience. 25 taps, lots of great bottles. When I was there it was the middle of Maine Beer Week, so half or so of the tap list was locals. I tried 5 different Maine beers and all were from ’very good’ to ’wow’. Food is simple, but a REALLY well thought-out meat and cheese (by the 1 oz serving) list and some great sandwiches. Frankly, gourmet meat and cheese and really good craft beer could sustain me for the rest of my days, so I was dissapointed to have to leave @ closing time. Awesome place. There is utterly no reason you shouldn’t go here when in Portland. None.

Off the beaten path and any beer geek needs to stop here if they are in Portland. The bar is in the basement of an old bank. The bartenders are very knowledge and love to talk beer. I was here on a slow holiday afternoon, so they had time to chat. I beat this place is packed on the weekend. I really can’t say anything else that hasn’t already been said. I will make it a MUST stop if in this city. You should as well. Bring some extra cash because you can find brews from Europe that are tuff to find in most places in the U.S. Excellent.

This is a cool little basement beer bar, nestled away in a corner of Portland. We sat on the sprawling outdoor deck and adored the draft list, choosing a couple of the wide array of big beers from the region (the list also included a raucous lineup of European and other American liver-killers). We sampled a cheese plate (well done) and enjoyed a nice summer evening. Only hit on the place was the somewhat over-taxed and slightly snooty server; but still my favorite beer stop in Portland.

Novare Res is tucked behind the main drag of buildings on Exchange Street. There is a large, nice, crowded patio, and a basement, low-lit, stonewalled main bar room. Very cool atmosphere. Bartender was good. Strong tap list, with a great mix of locals and high-level craft stuff from all over. We didn’t stay for very long and only got 2 things each, sticking to the tap menu. The bottle list was impressive, though. Even the most common beers available are really top-notch here. We came on a Wednesday night and saw an ad for a Dogfish Head tap event the following Wednesday including even "rare Hollywood" DFH beers. Shoot. This is the premier beer bar in Portland, easily, and is an essential stop for anyone in Portland for a few hours or more.

Visited in August 2010 with my folks. Sad that Eric wasn’t there. Knew him from my college days in Amherst frequenting the Moan and Dove where he was the manager for a time before starting this place. Pretty sweet setup inside and out. Like the moan, a fantastic, informative bottle menu with a few choice examples of every style under the sun. A lot of of my faves. I think I got a brewdog i had not had and a xx bitter or something similar. Would definitely hang here a lot if I lived in Portland.
