| lancehenry (16), , | | May 13, 2011 Nice selection of beers on tap. Best prices I’ve seen in awhile! | | DYCSoccer17 (244), Woodland, California | | July 5, 2010 I stopped here on July 4th. Victorian Avenue was shut down, so it was quite tricky for me to get here. There is a nice patio out front. As you walk in, there is a large seating area to the right and to the front. The bar is to the left, and it has more annoying slot machines on the bartop. The bathroom is clean. They were out of a few of their beers, but they had a couple beers that looked interesting on tap. The bartenders were really friendly and nice. Probably helped that it wasn’t too crazy busy there. Lots of people were coming in for growler fills...$8 growler fills. Unfuckingbelievable. The glassware was only $5, too. How come these guys can get away with charging reasonable growler prices while other breweries *cough* FiftyFifty*cough charge close to $20 for a fill? I had the tri-tip sandwich, which was mostly very tasty. It was HUGE, and only $9.95. They also have a Belgian bottle list with some trappist beers and whatnot. These bottles are priced at store prices. All in all, the value here is incredibly good. | | Codysseus (10), Nevada | | June 11, 2010 The best time to go to Great Basin is on tightwad Tuesday’s for the beer and the Wisconsin Cheese soup. The brewmaster has many good standards and anyone who knows the area should know the Icky if they know beer. The one downside to Great Basin is that it is a little loud all the time. The good news is that a new location is being opened in Reno! | | 6ROW (40), corpus christi, Texas | | May 4, 2010 Great food, great beer . 12 of their own brews on tap.
this is the place the locals go, very friendly staff. | | Sledutah (151), Utah | | April 4, 2010 Stopped by on Saturday afternoon. It is located a few miles east of Reno just off I-80. It has a large bar, about half of it has games in the bar. Large glass windows that you can see into the brewery. They had about 10 beers on tap. I ate the Brueben w/garlic fries, very good.
I’ll definitely stop by again on my way through town. | | yemenmocha (66), Glendale, Arizona | | April 18, 2009 Disappointing. Visit only if there’s nothing else to do in Reno.
Location is right off I-80, with limited parking, and plenty of outdoor seating. Atmosphere is more like a run down old house than a normal building structure, with a warehouse feel to it on parts within.
Seems to have a local alcoholic following. My visit was on a weekday afternoon, with nearly every patron on a first name basis with the bartender (who was otherwise rather rude to be honest).
Most beers are average, with perhaps just the Icky IPA and Saison worth trying. Chili beers and raspberry beers doused with orange wedges just isn’t for me.
Prices are high for a place of this quality. They’re pretending to be a more upscale place I suppose, especially with some of the menu items, but you feel like you’re paying premium for dive bar food, beer, and atmosphere. | | iowaherkeye (28), Ocean Beach, San Diego, California | | October 25, 2008 Dropped in on a Saturday night (9/20/08), and it was about 9:05, which is when they started charging cover for some random bandrockabilly white trashy stuff (I think that is actually how the band explains their musicthey’re very popular around the area), so the gf was already annoyed. This place was a clusterfuck, but it was a Saturday and again, the band has a local following. I think they had a 13 beers on tap. Beer wasn’t too bad, but nothing to write home about. Most of the crowd was friendly enough, and ranged from drunk college kids to goth to bikers to middle-aged folks for a night on the town. We never had any trouble getting a beer. They tried to give my gf and me a pitcher of their blonde (it was named after the band that was playing that night), and it tasted like soda water. They couldn’t give it away to me or anybody. I dunno what was up with that. I echo Ken’s statement that I would like to come here when it wasn’t so damn loud and busy. | | kmweaver (116), Santa Rosa, California | | October 15, 2008 Stopped by on a Tuesday night to find this place full of casino families, in all their noisy splendor. Unpleasantly loud and hard to talk, though the bar area would have been a better bet. Generally, not my scene. Some beers lined up on the wall, basic restaurant decor, with a bar area about as large as the dining area itself. Some outdoor seating, but the evening temperatures drop like a brick. Their beers, I thought, tended to be better than the averages on RB, and it looks like a lot of the ratings are reasonably outdated, so who knows if things have changed. The porter and IPA were solid, as was the smoked beer. There were over a dozen things on tap when we stopped by, though I’m not sure I would have braved the casino crowd if I’d known ahead of time. Stop by during a quiet hour and it would be worth it. $2.50 pints on Tightwad Tuesdays. | | savnac (155), Anchorage, Alaska | | August 1, 2008 Visited summer 2004. The beer was good, the food was ok. | | heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | July 14, 2008 Recent visit, was here in the afternoon on a weekday. The location is large and wide open. the menu had some neat comfort food and I was happy, especially with the vinegar based cucumber salad. They had a large selection of decent brews, but nothing I tried stood out. I guess it’s worth a stop if you are in Sparks, but not worth going out of your way to try. |
