| tastybeer (20), Washington DC | | April 2, 2012 Large bar conveniently located near the Chinatown metro. Big open space with lots of table seating and ample space at the bar. Also has a large patio. Very popular for happy hour and drinking spot for people headed to the Verizon Center for a sporting event. Bartenders are attentive and wait staff is generlly good. Beer selection is decent - a large number of the tap lines are dedicated to swill, but at least half are a mix of local craft and other stuff: Bell’s, Founders, Southern Tier, etc. Don’t expect to find anything too rare or crazy here. Food is pretty good but can be variable, especially if they’re busy. Prices on the sessionable beers hover around $6, but the high abv stuff and imports tends to run with a premium. Overall, a fun place to drink after work but I wouldn’t make a night out of it. | | bmerz (61), New York | | March 7, 2012 A huge selection with enough to keep almost any beer nerd happy. space with lots of seating which is good but its not much to look at other than the beer signs everywhere. Still space and lack of crowds is important. The waitress kept our glasses full! Prices were fair. On space and beer I’d be very likely to go again. | | darn1207 (59), Tallahassee, Florida | | January 25, 2012 Sports bar with pretty decent tap/bottle list. Nothing crazy rare, but plenty regional brews I hadn’t tried. There was busy pregame Caps crowd in when I went. Service was good and food was typical pub fare. Had a few of the locals - DC Brau and Capitol City. | | jcos (25), Maryland | | November 22, 2011 Been here many times. Large place, some sports on tv, usually decently crowded especially when Caps/Wiz are playing. Good location when it’s cold, not far from one entrance to Gallery Place Metro. Food is bar food but decent. | | kassner (53), Wexford, Pennsylvania | | November 14, 2011 Going to ND MD game. Parked North of the city, htook a Metro to gallery Place and walked two blocks. The brickskeller new and improved. Packed befor capitols game but the beer, service and food were all great. No wait despite the three deep bar. Very nice stop. | | JCB (120), Durham, North Carolina | | November 4, 2011 I usually try to stop in at least once when I’m back home, and it’s a good thing to have such a strong craft destination in this once-fearsome part of town. Strong sports bar environment, and I have watched my share of games here. But there’s a decent amount of seating and even when crowded it doesn’t feel oppressive. Good service, and the bar staff has always been knowledgeable and generous. Tap list in particular is quite good, and they do a fine job at rotating in seasonals, one-offs, and the like. I’m due for a return trip. | | MiP (17), Sønderborg, Denmark | | October 13, 2011 A good draught beer list. Samples are available, but not cheap compared to flights or tasting trays oter places. Also a lot of bottles. Good places to watch sports as there are plenty of TVs. | boydstradamus (7), North Carolina does not count - explanation | | August 13, 2011 great bar for this important and bustling part of town. rotating taps that will provide several great options with regularity. good bottle list as well (it’s ran by the people of the now defunct brickskeller). can get really crowded at happy hour and during sporting/special event nights (close proximity to Verizon Center). food is slightly upscale american pub fare (better food than what was offered at the brickskeller). overall a welcome addition to the chinatown section of dc. underused back patio is a good spot to escape the bustle of the indoor/bar area. | | ApisAles (42), Greenbelt, Maryland | | August 7, 2011 Solid beer bar in the middle of Chinatown in DC. Always a great bottle selection and usually some pretty great stuff on tap. It can get crowded and noisy, especially when there’s a game going on at the Verizon Center. Food is pretty solid pub grub. I’ve had a few beers here that I’d never seen anywhere else so that’s always a plus. Nice beer stop in the DC area. | | NachlamSie (359), Tennessee | | June 5, 2011 I was walking down the street on my way to District Chophouse when a large banner advertising local craft beer week and dozens of taps in R.F.D.’s window caught my eye. The inside is wide open and decorated with breweriana all over the place. It has an almost sports bar feel but with very heavy emphasis on having a superior beer selection. It’s not quite what Churchkey has to offer but it is definitely above average. Plenty of token micros and imports are available along with some rarer things and a wide variety of styles are represented. Half pours are available as well. This is a very recommended stop while in DC. |
