92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 rickhall28 (140) Denville, New Jersey | June 3, 2013 Wonderful, original, eclectic craftbeer bar that is a destination in and of itself. I highly recommend a stop here when visiting Brooklyn craftbars...but definitely worth a special trip alone. I gave them a 14 out of 15 for selection...not for quantity (this isn’t a Yard House) but for quality...for unusual and hard to find selections. The decor is very much like an antique store...maybe even an oldtime hardware store. There is a really nice courtyard out back too. The food choices are great. They include cheeses...meats...pickles...olives, and the like...all of the highest quality (if you need something more substantial...go to Fette Sau nearby for amazing BBQ). The place is filled with regulars (locals who realize how lucky they are to have a place like this in their neighborhood) as well as craftbeer explorers like myself who will read about a place like this and search it out. I recommend you do the same! | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 lushawn (230) Massachusetts | March 11, 2013 quiet hip beer bar. looks like a closed down pawn shop out front. big nice outdoor patio in the back. chill crowd. nice place. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 jrgratz (11) New York | March 4, 2013 Great selection.. many rare selections. Love a lot of the stuff they put out here. Garden in back makes it an amazing stop when weather is nice. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Theydon_Bois (394) The ’Sham, England | February 16, 2013 Visited here just the once in March ’10 on a Brooklyn pub crawl.
Nice little bar with a well thought out tap and bottle selection. Big Belgian/overseas influence on the bottle selection, which I knew would be the case - but not what I’m particularly looking for in the US but I’m sure is great for others.
Had a small cheese plate which was tasty.
Good vibes and service. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 mansquito (56) Nueva York, New York | December 31, 2012 Nice place with no sign. Rather full on a Sunday night. Interior is nice and fortunately we managed to find some place to sit. Tap list is small, but the beers are obscure. Of the six, I haven’t had five of them, which is generally a good sign. Two Mikkellers on tap is generally a good sign anywhere. Bottles are many, but the prices are high (kind of inconsistently: for example Thornbridge Bracia is cheaper here than in Whole Foods, but slightly more expensive than New Beer Distributors). Many bottles are $40 or more and of those, many of them are not sufficiently rare to justify the price. No Bud Light to be found anywhere. I like that. Bar tenders were nice, but they mispelled a few beers on the menu, so it seems like they might not know their shit as well as they should. Food looked tasty: cheese and meet and olives. Stuff I like. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 msante79 (335) Mount Prospect, Illinois | December 3, 2012 Stopped for Zwanze day this place was packed to the gills. Has that iconic beer bar vide. Old school with only siz taps but were all loaded for the event. Bottle list was insane due to the event as well. They have a cool outdoor area. Service was outstanding especially given the size of the crowd. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 Jow (96) New York | December 2, 2012 Made the trek out here for zwanze day. Why don’t they have sign out front? Anyways small place not much tom look at but interesting stuff to drink for sure. They handled the madness nicely the bottles were too expensive for me but a boy can dream. I’d stop by if in neighborhood again | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 bmerz (118) Brooklyn, New York | October 9, 2012 Spuyten Duyvil has probably the snobbiest beer list you will find for Belgians. Much of it is very obscure, or was a few years ago when I first moved around the corner. The small tap list usually has something amazingly awesome and rare to offer. It’s helped set a trend in the neighborhood for design cool and it’s not at all contrived. It’s tiny though, beware in Summer months when the huge and beautiful back yard isn’t open. My major beef with it is that it is so expensive even for NYC. And that huge obscure and rare bottle list on their chalk board...have a few back ups especially if you are ordering one of those rare obscure beers you see on tap. The service can be fast, they don’t seem knowledgable. The small wine, meat and cheese lists are stelar for a beer bar. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tom10101 (37) Quebec | August 11, 2012 Small bar in Brooklyn area. Not a big selection (6 tap and 1 cask) when I went there but the beer on tap/cask were good. Decent bottle selection, but many where out (still listed on the board) - 3 out 4 that I asked for where out. Price are high but reasonable for NYC area. No food except cheese, olive and some other appetizer. Staff was kind but not very helpful. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Munkky (49) , Denmark | May 25, 2012 A cozy little place in Brooklyn. Not so many taps but the beer was really good. The bottle list contains some really good things But there are many other places in NY that is better |
