88 The mecca in Buffalo for some time, our first time here. Friendly staff, knowledgeable and passionate. Prices are high-ish but this is the trendy part of Buffalo. Food is good. Selection is ever changing and top notch. It met expectations which were high. |
84 Stopped in after a brunch across the street at Pano's (outstanding, BTW). Nice divey-bar atmosphere without being dingy and dirty - more like well loved for a long time. Sat at the bar (restaurant was other half of the room). Nice beer list, though the printed version wasn't up to date (they have an electronic version streaming on a TV that was up-to-date. Offered flights of 5 for $15 and 4 for $12 (I think) - I did a coupe flights of 5 and then some. Bartenders both reminded me of home - home of Cleveand, not my current home. Friendly, but not overly or fake, but very knowledgeable and quick. One of them had to eject a puking guy from the bathroom who said he'd have to be dragged out (and he was, which was amusing to watch). Nice selection - lots of local/NY beers on tap (and some bottles and cans as well). Did not try the food. I would absolutely go back next time I'm in town. |
88 An excellent bar. Great selection of beers, with a definite emphasis on NY stuff. They offer four- and five-beer flights, which is great, especially since the tap list is pretty bulky. The barmen were pretty attentive, and friendly. The bar itself is quite unique, an interesting meld of old lodge, neighbourhood bar and college bar. We visited fairly late on a Friday night. The place was busy, but not crowded. Overall, we had a great time here. If you find yourself in Buffalo, Cole’s is a must-visit. |
68 Parking is somewhat difficult on the street. We parked two or three blocks away on a Saturday for dinner. Big long bar no the right. The place has a worn bar look with some wood character to it. They had 35 taps on and I had two of them (one was pretty hard to get). Service was pretty good. The food was hit or miss, my burger was okay, my fries were pretty good, wifes’s large portion of onion rings were just okay. Prices for food or beer were a little high ($6.75 for a local wheat beer, over $10 for a burger). I would go back if they have something beer I am really looking forward to have, but my wife is not likely to want to go. |
80 Cole’s is a lovely old fashioned bar with lots of original features such as stained glass, dark wood and open rafters. A previously open space at the side has been converted into a dining room and it’s been done very well in keeping with the old bar. I liked the large model aeroplane suspended from the ceiling and the huge windows which must be a boon in the summer. The whole place was buzzing and very popular on a Friday evening and the beer list is very good. I liked it a lot, and not just because we were treated to some spectacular hospitality by Mike, the owner, and his family and friends.

62 Stopped in here around 11 AM for lunch. Street parking wasn’t difficult to find, and it was free surprisingly. When we got here we were able to be seated right away. Our waitress took awhile to come see us and get our order. The place was not busy, so this wasn’t really something I understood with multiple people working the few tables that were occupied. Anyway, I tried to order a beer and was told I could order it at noon. I don’t get this because I could see several others with bloody mary’s, glasses of wine, mimosas and so on. Maybe it’s a New York thing. They had a limited menu as well. Fortunately they did have what I wanted on their shortened menu. Wings! They are supposedly famous for them. Wing expectations must be low if that’s the case. Overall, overpriced bar food, unfriendly service, not much to draw a person in except they did have a nice tap list. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to have anything from it during my visit. |
76 Awesome piece of Buffalo in the Elmwood Village. Motown music classics piped thru the place. Started in 1934 and you can see the history all throughout. Great tap list and lots of bottles. Amazing duck burger- a must try! Do not regret visiting this place at all!! |
80 Back rating. Visited on a Friday, but it was still early so it wasn’t very busy and half of the tables on both sides were empty. That’s why I’m surprised the service was so slow. Had to keep flagging down server and would see her just standing and talking to other employees and not paying attention. Super friendly and nice, just not very attentive. Food was superb, beer list was insane, and price and value was decent. This and Blue Monk are great places to go. |
82 Very nice looking and clean place. Good selection of beers.(even though the 2 I wanted that were on their website were not avail.) The Hopsickle was fine though. Good selection of bar food. All our fries were cold as if waiting on the plate awhile for the hamburgers to finish cooking. The wait staff was very attentive. We had a good time here. |
72 Stopped in for lunch on 7/1/13. Townie atmosphere with most patrons seeming to know the bartender quite well. Decent tap selection, and I went with the GLBC/Deschutes Class of 88 Smoked Porter. Good menu of burgers with wagyu beef an option for nearly all of them.Burger was tasty and cooked pproperly and the fries were good. Service was pretty decent. |
