Didn’t exactly know where to go in the Columbus area, just passing through.
Decided on here.
Nice clean atmosphere with good service, the place wasn’t packed but still service was good. I asked for an ESB but was told they were out and then the waitress said she’d discount my flight. Uh...that definitely worked. 6 samples ranging from their blood orange wheat beer to their sexual chocolate. All were good. I had fish n’ chips which were very good. Overall, weird how I asked for a beer and then they discounted my flight just because they actually didn’t have it. Am I arguing? Hell no. That’s exceptional business. If more businesses did what Barley’s did. If I lived closer, I’d be there more often.
Nice pub atmosphere. I sat at the square bar just inside the door. Beer prices are excellent and food prices are going rate. Service was good especially since the Arnold was going on. My burger was pretty good and good side salad. I really liked the blood thirst wheat, so I hope to come back.
Chill pub-type atmosphere. It has the cozy feel of a relaxing meeting place with a local, townsy feel within the city. Friendly service and patrons as well as tasty, food - mostly comfort style offerings, but it’s done well. They have a good selection of their beers available and sell 2oz samplers for $0.75 a piece.
My wife and I stayed over night near the Convention center and this brewery was within easy walking distance. It has a cool old pub vibe to it. We did not park and I have no idea where parking would be found. This is a very busy area. Food was good and upscale. I had about 10 of their samplers and they cost something like 75 cents apiece! Some of them were exceptional and all were solid. As well as their own beers they had a few guest taps as well as macros.
When I visited: Late January 2013.
What I had: Barley’s Christmas Ale on tap and Rye IPA on cask, Bavarian Pretzel Rods, Polski Feast, Buffalo Chicken Tender Salad, white wines for my better half, Bread Pudding Rustica to split.
What I liked: Approachable pub-like atmosphere, low key and homey, nice private booths, delicious food, good range of house draughts, quick service, above average beers, prime choice for dinner and drinks.
What I disliked: Guest taps are limited.
Would I go back? Yes.
Overall Rating: 78
Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Street parking only, but that didn’t seem to pose a problem despite being right in the middle of downtown Columbus. Not too much of a crowd in here and I was able to grab a seat at the bar and get a sample of all the house beers on tap, cask, and nitro. Pretty sold house beers. Bartender seemed knowledgeable and was attentively and courteous. I didn’t order anything to eat, but the menu was the same as Barleys #2, which I had eaten at a couple hours earlier. Very good experience overall.
